Nintendo Capacitor Replacement

We have recognized a very serious
potential problem with the PP-1000
(PUOCH--ouT, PLAYCHOICE-10), PP-1200 (VS.
SYSTEM, excluding tables) and the PP-1300
(PA01AN/UNISYSTEM kit) p:>wer supplies.

down imnediately as indicated.by a "Zick"
sound.

To remedy or to prevent this problem, we
suggest that ca be replaced in ALL
PP-1000, PP-1200 and PP-1300 p:>wer
supplies REX;ARDLFSS of age!
The capacitor suggested as a replacement
should have the following rating:
100ufd/35V. Heat ·range of -55 degrees to
105 degrees c. Leakage less than 35uA.
Our study shows that, after a period of 1
to 2 years of use, capacitor a
(ca/ 47ufd/35V) in the power supply, dries
up. ence ca dries up, it becomes a
resistive value. Because of its location
in the circuit, a free running oscillation
occurs. This free running oscillation
replaces the switching signal and causes
the supply to go into overvoltage .

These p:>wer supplies have an overvoltage
protection circuit incorporated into the
+SV line. Should the supply go into
overvoltage, the protection circuit shuts
down Q2 which is the first of the
switching signal amplifiers, hence
shutting down the supply.
With ca dried up, the unexpected free
running oscillations may, in a few
isolated cases, continue without Q2.
Therefore, it is p:>ssible that the supply
could remain in the overvoltage condition
even after the protection circuit shuts
down Q2. During overvoltage, the voltage
on the +SV line rises to lOV or rore.
Consequently, possible P.C. Board damage
may occur.

(partial dry-up) would be the supply
shutting down when hot, but working okay
after being powered-down and let cool.

The heat rating of the replacement is very
irrportant. Manufacturer test paraneters
indicate it should operate at 105 degrees
c for 2000 hours with no appreciable
change in original specs. We have these
capacitors in our stock under Part
#MDSU-0a-51.
