Piano, the Featured Artist
for December 1.
Hans Barth, pianist and inventor of the quarter-
tone piano, Louis Persinger, violinist, and Myndelle
l.ouis, soprano, will be heard "at the Baldwin" at
7:45 ]). m. Eastern standard time, on Sunday evening,
December 1. The program will be broadcast over
Station WJZ and the associated stations of the Na-
tional Broadcasting Chain.
Hans Barth was born in Liepzig. He was brought
to America, where at the age of 12, he distinguished
himself, giving a series of thirteen concerts in New
York city. Returning to Europe, he studied there
for sereval years. In 1917 he returned to America
and made his debut as a mature artist in New York
city.
Since then Barth has devoted much of his time to
composing. He has to bis credit several piano con-
certos, an operetta, and many compositions for the
piano. His latest work is a symphonic composition
for strings and the quarter-tone p : ano.
For the past few years Hans Barth lias devoted
his time to the quarter-tone piano, an invention of his
He presents a program tracing the development of
the piano. For this program he uses "The Piano ot
Yesterday," the harpsichord (the harpsichord Mr.
Barth uses is an exact reproduction of the harpsichord
now in the Berlin Museum upon which Beethoven,
composed his Moonl'ght Sonata). "The Piano of
Today," a concert grand, and "The Piano of To-
morrow," the quarter-tone piano. Barth, presenting
this novelty, was the featured artist on the program
that opened Constitution Hall in Washington, D. C.
He played before the largest concert audience ever
assembled in tbat city.
Louis Persinger began the study of the violin at
the Leipzig Conservatory, where he won the com-
mendation of Arthur N'kisch. His more advanced
instruction was received from Eugene Ysaye in Brus-
sels and Jacques Tribaud in Paris. He was for a
time concertmaster of the Orcbestra du Theatre Royal
de la Monnaie, Brussels and of the Berlin Philhar-
monic. Coming to this country he made concert ap-

pearances with the New York Philharmonic, the Cin-
cinnati, and the San Francisco Orchestras. For a
time he was concertmaster of the San Francisco
Symphony Orchestra.
Myndelle Louis first came under the notice of the
Australian musical public when, after a very short
period of study under the late Alice Rees-Vogridi,
wife of the celebrated pianist and composer, Max
Vogrich, she entered for the open scholarship at the
Melbourne University Conservatorium of Music. She
established the unusual precedent of being adjudged
"too good to win. This resalt made Miss Louis decide
to devote herself seriously to music. After further
study Miss Louis gave successful recitals and toured
Australia and New Zealand extensively in both con-
cert and opera.

ASKS RECEIVER FOR EARL RADIO.
D : spatches to the daily papers say that an involun-
tary petition in bankruptcy was filed against the Earl
Radio Corporation in federal court at New York last
Wednesday by C. Edward Benoit, attorney for cred-
itors. The appointment of a receiver is asked. The
petitioning concerns are the Timmons Radio Prod-
ucts Company, listing claims of $28.45; Paul & Beek-
man Manufacturing Company, $22,000, and Ericsson
Screw Machine Products Company, $25,000. The Earl
Radio Corporation manufactures radios and radio
parts. Temporary receivers were named on Novem-
ber 22 in an action agauist the company brought in
New Jersey.
Production is no longer the problem.

G. ANDERSON JOINS
GULBRANSEN CO.
He Is Now Assistant Radio Sales Manager for Big
Chicago Corporation.
The Gulbransen Company, Chicago, manufacturers
of the Gulbransen Nine-in-Line Screen-Grid Radio
announces the addition to its sales staff of Gilman
Anderson as assistant radio sales manager. Mr. An-
derson greeted his host of many friends from the
GILMAN ANDERSON.

He is an old-timer in the radio industry—starting in
the early days before complete sets were built with
the Bremer-Tully Mfg. Co, where he was assistant
sales manager.
Thomas P. Currier, aged 74 years, musician and
writer, died at Interlaken, N. Y., on November 19.
He was a piano pupil of B. J. Lang and an associate
of Edward MacDowell in Boston.
