CUTS OPERA FOR RADIO.
Cesare Sodero, New York radio maestro and con-
ductor, has adapted fifty operas for presentation on
the air. It took Mr. Sodero eleven days to compress
"Lohengrin" to his satisfaction. All the grand operas
are sung in the original language by the National
Grand Opera Ensemble and so cleverly are the con-
densations made that the radio presentation loses
none of its appeal for the regular opera patron. After
the cut is made, the tabloid version is timed in re-
hearsal by a stop watch. One difficulty first experi-
enced by the Maestro was in getting the orchestra
and singers to switch back and forth in performing
the opera, singing an aria here and cutting another
familiar theme elsewhere.
