CUTS OPERA FOR RADIO.
Cesare Sodero, New York radio maestro and con-
ductor, has adapted fifty operas for presentation on
the air. It took Mr. Sodero eleven days to compress
"Lohengrin" to his satisfaction. All the grand operas
are sung in the original language by the National
Grand Opera Ensemble and so cleverly are the con-
densations made that the radio presentation loses
none of its appeal for the regular opera patron. After
the cut is made, the tabloid version is timed in re-
hearsal by a stop watch. One difficulty first experi-
enced by the Maestro was in getting the orchestra
and singers to switch back and forth in performing
the opera, singing an aria here and cutting another
familiar theme elsewhere.

Pianos for Apartment Hotel.
Crosby Hopps, manager of the piano department
of the Martin Music Co., recently returned from his

Harry Gennett in Los Angeles.
Harry Gennett, who is making a tour of the Pacific
Coast accompanied by Mrs. Gennett, arrived in Los
Angeles last week via the Santa Fe and the Golden
Limited Express. Mr. Gennett is visiting with his
daughter, Mrs. W. H. Thompson, and family, who
reside in Hollywood.
When our correspondent called at the executive
offices of The Starr Piano Company, 630 South Hill
street, he was ushered into the private office of the
company and greeted by Mr. Nolder, secretary and
treasurer of the Pacific Coast division of the com-
pany, who introduced him to Mr. Gennett: "Here
is a representative of The Presto-Times of Chicago,
whose late editor, C. A. Daniell, I have known for the
past fifty years." Mr. Gennett said he was always
pleased to meet a representative of Presto-Times.
He further stated that he was very favorably im-
pressed with the business conditions in California and
his family enjoyed the glorious climate, and while
here they w T ould take advantage of many of the nu-
merous attractions that were easily reached by boat
and rail and at the same time would combine busi-
ness with pleasure.
Mr. Gennett further expressed himself as very
highly gratified with the success of the Starr piano
and the Gennett records, all of which were favorably
received throughout the entire Pacific Coast. He
will remain on the Coast until the first of October,
during which time the Los Angeles branch would
promote and extend the Starr pianos and the Gennett
records in a satisfactory manner to meet the large
demand which has been developed in that section.
