Thurlow Lieurance, Wichita, Kans., composer of
Tndian music and dean of music at the University of
Wichita, and Dr. Renee M. Gouldner, prominent
Rotarian, have written a song which will be sung by
the Wichita Rotary Quartet at the international con-
vention at Ostend, Belgium, this summer. Dr. Gould-
ner wrote the lyrics and Dean Lieurance the music.
The name of the song is "Friendship," and it has
been translated into French, Italian and Spanish.

Word Which Gives the Fine Line Its Title Stimulates
the Perfection Furniture Co.
The Perfection Furniture Co. is the new title of the
Perfection Piano Bench Mfg. Co., Chicago, maker
of Perfection benches and cabinets. The expansion
of the company and the production of a more com-
prehensive line of goods was the reason for the adop-
tion of the new firm name recently.
But while wider phases of manufacturing distin-
guish the great plant at 1514-1520 Blue Island avenue,
the old lines—benches and cabinets—still receive the
same vigilant attention of the company. The merits
of design, construction and finish which justify the
term "Perfection" continue to be imparted to the

Fine List Just Issued for Piano and Organ by Auto-
matic Music Roll Co.

street, Chicago, has issued its July Bulletin of Auto-
matic music for pianos, orchestrions and organs. It
is a long and varied line of music which has the power
to attract the nickels from patrons. Several new-
foreign rolls are included.
The list has many numbers suitable for the organ
and notably alluring are those with music from pop-
ular musical comedies and standard operas.
JAZZ PLAYER TAXED.
Dodging one's income tax has as unpleasant con-
sequences in England as in the United States, accord-
ing to the discovery made last week by Teddy Brown,
American jazz band leader. Brown was arrested in
London because he had failed to pay $1,300 due as
his British income tax payment. Offers of friends to
pay it for him and a direct appeal to Sir William
Joynson-Hicks, home secretary, failed to keep him
out of ia.il.
DR. ROOT'S DAUGHTER DIES.
Clara Louise Burnham, well-known author of girls'
books, who died last week at Bailey Island, Me ,
according to a dispatch received in Chicago, was the
daughter of the late Dr. George F. Root, composer
of "Tramp, Tramp, Tramp, the Boys Arc Marching."
Mrs. Burnham was well known by many in the Chi-
cago music trade and especially in music publishing
circles.
NOTABLE BENCH DISPLAY.
A notable display of piano benches and cabinets
at the recent exhibition at the Stevens Hotel, Chi-
cago, in connection with the music trade convention,
was that of the Perfection Bench Mgf. Co., Chicago.
It was remarkable for the novelties and the artistic
manner in which the benches and cabinets were de-
signed and finished. The exhibit well justified the
use of the word perfection in the title of the company.
