Hundred Dollars Offered for Composi-
tions in Symphony and Chamber
Music.
In the Paderewski Prize Fund Competition for
1927 a prize of one thousand dollars ($1,000) is
offered for the best work for the orchestra, in the

A prize of five hundred dollars ($500) also is of-

pianoforte and violin or violoncello, not exceeding
fifteen minutes in performance.
The judges will be George W. Chadw T ick, Fred-
erick S. Converse and Henry Hadley.
The offering of these prizes is made possible from
time to time through the income from a fund donated
some years ago by lgnace Paderewski for the pur-
pose of encouraging serious creative effort among
musicians in the United States.
Works offered are to be sent to Mrs. Elizabeth C.
Allen, secretary of the Paderewski Fund, 296 Hunt-

competitor is either an American-born citizen or was
born abroad of American parents. The trustees as-
sume no responsibility for the loss of manuscript
while in transit.
The competition is open only to American-born
citizens, or to those born abroad of American parents.
The works offered must never have been performed
in public, and never have been offered at any prev-
ious competition. To be eligible, any composition
must, in point of technical workmanship and musical
content, reach the standard required for works com-
monly given public performance in the regular con-
certs of symphony orchestras or chamber music or-
ganizations, respectively, of the first rank in the
United States. The judges may in their discretion
