REAL LOVE-THE DOOBIE
BROTHERS-Warner Brothers/
WBS49503
Not only do you get the
Doobie Brothers' "Real Love",
but you get real music. Michael
McDonald and Patrick Render-
on are at their ongwriting best
with this ure-shot hit done in the
inimitable Doobies style. It's
culled from t he long-awaited,
soon -to-be-released "One Step
Closer" lp and couldn't be sung or
played any better. The lyrical
content makes one t hink of
"What a Fool Believes"-but that
can't be all bad. Great ax work
highlight this smash: 10 out of
10.
NOW THAT YOU'RE MINE
AGAIN- THE SPINNERS-
Atlantic/ 3757
Could this be? The Spinners
doing fres h material again? It is,
and what a relief. Not t hat I'm
condemning their recent hits, but
I think it's time t hey show the
public the true ide of their
talents . Thi Michael Zager com-
po ition i the perfect vehicle for
just that. And the guy come
through in tyle on thi
oulful
ballad done in the vein of The
Platters/ Oti Redding, if that's a
correct assessment.
There's
great sax and vocal work on this
one, too. Excellent cro over
potential-it gets a 10 out of 10
on highest chart, from thi
corner .
