Carl Fischer, Inc., Makes
Fall Trade Offer to Dealers
Fifty-sscond Annual Fall Offer to the Trade
in Pamphlet Form, With Music Marked With
Actual Prices According to New Rule
The fifty-second Fall trade offer of Carl
Fischer, Inc., has just been forwarded to the
trade. It is in pamphlet form and can be
used as an order blank, the front page carrying
space for dealer's name, address, shipping date
and special instructions. The company an-
nounces in a foreword that "in accordance with
the recommendation of the Federal Trade Com-
mission, on and after June 1, 1924, all of its
new publications and reissues will be marked
with the prices at which it is expected the music
will be sold at retail. Its discounts will be
changed to conform with the new prices so that
the margin of profit will be substantially the
same. In order to prevent confusion the new
price markings will be indicated in a distinctive
way so that they can be readily recognized by
the sales force. All stock printed prior to June
1 will bear a stamp 'Prices subject to discount.'
As practically all the Fall trade orders will be
shipped from stock now on hand, old prices and
discounts with this marking will be in force."

A feature of the new stock offer is the "Carl
Fischer Superior Orchestra Fdition," including
500 of the best compositions in the Fischer
catalog and an entirely new edition. As special-
ties there is a "group of fifteen successful songs
by representative American composers." In con-
junction with this release a thematic circular
will be available for trade distribution. There
are also "twenty-seven modern recital pieces"
specially suitable for motion picture pianists and
organists. A circular for consumers will also
accompany this new contribution. Other new
offerings include two new Fritz Kreisler violin
transcriptions, "Negro Spiritual Melody," from
Largo of the New World Symphony (Dvorak)
and "Poupee Valsante" (Poldini). "The En-
cyclopedia of Music and Musicians," a compre-
hensive and authoritative reference book of the
Composers'^ Music Corp. catalog, and the re-
cently published Bach Sonatas and Suites for
which Leopold Godowsky is receiving so much
praise is included.
Ziegfeld Follies Open
The 1924 edition of Ziegfeld's "Follies" opened
at the New Amsterdam Theatre, on Tuesday
evening of this week. Joseph McCarthy and
Harry Tierney, of "Irene" and "Kid Hoots"
fame, have supplied some of the outstanding
songs. Other contributors are Gene Buck and
Victor Herbert, the latter having finished sev-
eral numbers for this season's show just before
his death. The McCarthy and Tierney num-
bers, which are published by Leo Feist, Inc.,
include "Adoring You," "In a Big Glass Case"
and "All Pepped Up."

hand. E. C. Mills, chairman of the Board of
Directors of the Music Publishers' Protec-
tive Association, in a short address paid a tribute
to Jack Mills as a business man, music pub-
lisher and competitor.
A very attractive and original invitation to
the bachelor dinner was sent out to Jack Mills'
many friends, the frontispiece of which carried
a reproduced portrait of the culprit. The time
and place of the event followed, below which
appeared the following quototion, "For lo, Jack
is about to build another house."
