ST. LOUIS-Pete Stiehl, while running
service for Ideal Novelty Co.'s string of
arcades, did a Aip·Aop on his motorcycle.
Escaping unscathed, Pete went out the
next day and picked the vehicle up in a
basket. Despite the recent Aood condition
which existed throughout this area, Ideal
Novelty was able to open Sylvan Beach on
the scheduled date. It took a hundred
loads of gravel to put Aooded sections of
the grounds in shape for the highly suc·
cessful grand opening. Rex Howe is resi·
dent manager of the Beach.
Dan Baum formerly of the Baum Novelty
Co. has joined the Ideal staff as general
manager. He says his old copyrighted slo·
gan still goes, "While in St. Louis pay us
a visit."
Paul Rook, operator from Hughes, Ar·
kansas, spent early June in St. Louis visit·
ing local showrooms. C. A. Camp of South·
ern Amusement Co., Memphis, Tenn., was
another recent visitor. Ben Spasser, Illinois
operator, came to St. Louis and stayed over
Memorial Day.
The Aristocrat Cabinet Co. has moved
into their new quarters at 1317 Kentucky
Ave., a spacious factory building. Accord·
ing to Walter Gummersheimer it will be
about one month before they get set up
properly and in good enough shape for a
housewarming.
Arrow Novelty Co.'s Lloyd Misplay is
stationed at Scott Field and gets into town
to see the old bunch every once in a while.
Al Kubernet, another Arrow man, was
home on furlough from Camp Campbell,
Ky., in late May and spent time visiting
with coin industry friends.
Automatic Cigarette released the follow·
ing news concerning its boys in service:
Sam Mellman has been made a warrant
officer and is stationed at an army base
in Kansas; David Friedland is attending
Adjutant General School at . Fort Wash·
ington, Md.; Al Yanish is presently home
on furlough after spending some time with
the army in Alaska; Meyer Sherp was on
furlough during May from Camp White,
Oregon.

Bill Betz of the W·B Novelty Co. spent
the latter part of May visiting W·B's branch
office in Kansas City. Davies Novelty Co.'s
John Parsons is now stationed at nearby
Jefferson Barracks. Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Davies in early May announced the arrival
of a six· pound baby girl at the Davies
domicile.
John Fotsch, salesman for Morris Novel·
ty Co. is scheduled to go into the army
shortly. His wife, Patricia, will take over
his territory and manage it for the dura·
tion. Sergeant Jack Tobin is back at Mor·
ris Novelty after spending sixteen months
in the army. He came back to civilian life
by way of a medical discharge.
Peerless Vending Machine Co.'s John
Knauss went into the navy just when Wal·
ter Bowman was all set for a vacation.
"I'll gladly skip it," says Walter.
Ed Uhl of Olive Novelty Co. is post·
carding from Fort Worth, Texas. He is
in the army. John Ryan will sp,e nd a', few
days in the Ozarks in mid·June. Jack Mehl
just returned from Indiana where he
stayed over Memorial Day. J. B. Kelley
of McCall Novelty Co. reported to Jeffer.
