The followin g helpful tips on operatin g
vendi'ng machines are from a new booklet
entitled "Making Money With A Chain Of
Bulk Vendors" published by th e North-
western Corporation :.
Stay out of locations durin g rush hours.
Remember a smile goes a long way. Treat
all customers and employees with res pect.
Always refund cost of phone calls mad e by
locations for servicing. Be neat and clean
in appearance, never start your day's work
without shaving. Phone you r office or home
without fail for service calls, complaints
and adjustments. Don't knock your compe
tition, tell your proprietor th e merits of
your own product and servicin g.
Identify your machines with a sticker
or nam e plate so the location can have
immediate access to your phone numb er
for service calls without in conveni ence.
Usually a small sticker will serve the pur-
pose. Place one of them back of th e glob e,
another inside the machin e. Also have some
secret mark on th e mechanism or base so
that you can prove ownership of the
machine under any conditions.
Don't spill merchandise on th e floor. If
you do, by all means clean it up. Always
do your work to one side qu ickly and diplo-
matically. Don't park your car at or nea r
the gasoline pumps wh en servicing ma-
chines in the servi ce stations. Don't clean
glob es with a dirty rag. Don't service ma-
chines on bars or show cases as you may
scratch th e bar or break the glass case.
Don't ca rry dirty, din ghy looking car-
tons into location s to service machines.
Don't put pennies or slugs in your pocket
until you have counted th e commission.
Don't count too fas t, the owner gets ideas
in his head if you do.
If you have a machine on location that
do es not sell merchandise there is a reason
why. -The answ(}r may be wrong merchan-
, dise, wron g type of machin e, color, slugs,
th e location owner does not like your dis-
couraging and indifferent attitude, too
much competition, machines should be
near case or t elephon e booths, too small a
machin e, out of order, stal e merchandise
in machin e, dirty machin e, lo cks bein g
tampered with.
Merchandise put in paper bags with
enough merchandise to fill a machine is a
handy aid in servicing.
Some operators have found by carryin g
a supply of clean glob es with them at all
tim es, th ey can replace di rty globes on
loca tion, without delay a nd mess of wash-
in g globes on loca tion. The dirty glob es
are then cleaned at ni ght and rea dy for
th e same 13rocedure the next day.
Anoth er good tim e saver is to ca rry one
or two extra· machin es with you so that
wh en machin es on location have been
tampered with or are out of order you will
not have to waste tim e repairing them.
The extra machine can be placed on loca-
tion, the disabl ed machin e looked over
later.
Always have a chee rful word fo r every-
one-don' t grumble about thi s and that.
Don' t argue, and be careful about "kid-
din g," many tim es a kiddin g r emark made
in fun will offend.
If you have a machin e on a highly pol-
ished bar or glass show case furni sh small
rubber pads to go und er the machine, and
be sure to remove th e machin e from th e
bar wh en servicin g it.
The practi ce of leavin g a receipt show-
in g th e amount of commission paid and
the signature of th e perso n receiving it is
a good one. Many times the owner is not
present wh en th e commission is paid and,
should any question ari se, you have the
signed recei'pt to fall back on.

Automatic Games
Builds Foundry
CHICAGO- The only way to break a
record is to make one first. So think the
executives of Automatic Games who this
month announ ced anoth er expansion of
th eir firm.
Month after month the increased demand
and popularity of the Silver Kin g line has
torced Automati c Games to employ addi -
tional help, seek larger quarters and now
to expand th e aluminum foundry, under the
name and management of Adolph Tice,
who since 1937 has been doing such an
excellent job exclusively for Silver Kin g
parts, coin counters, carriers, and stands.
A modern cement block building on the
main highway into Aurora at th e outskirts
of the town is nearin g completion. The
plant will be of sufficient size to handle
all of the aluminum work as well as take
on the aluminum parts for other vending
and allied firms.
Tice, and Automatic Gam es offi cials wi sh
to thank the jobbers and operators whose
loyalty and co-operation have made it pos-
sibl e to employ more men and produce bet-
ter merchandise thus bein g able to con-
tribute in some small degree to better a nd
more prosperous conditions throughout th e
nation.
