Penny Candy Vendors
Show Increasing Sales
Some operators of penny
candy machines say that the
business of their r o u t e s are
booming, and attribute a great
variety of reasons for the in
crease in sales. Be that as it
may, penny vendors are pro
viding themselves the stabiliz
ing factor in a route of coin
operated machines.
While it is true that there is
more money to be spent, the in
creased amount of money in cir
culation accounts for only a
part of the r e a l reason why
penny vendors are doing so
well. In evaluating the popu
larity of penny vendors, we
should not overlook the basic
value of penny vendors. That
fundamental reason for their
success, today as always, has
been and will continue to be —
impulse sales appeal. Impulse

sales appeal is composed of

First is convenience; second is
desire to chew a bit of some

Is Federal Tax Revenue From
Coin Machines Headed Down?
One can read most anything
one wishes to read in a set of
figures, and this holds true to
the amounts of money collected
by the f e d e r a l government
from the levy on various types
of coin operated machines.
The figures of the full year
of 194*2 follow:
January ......... $ 450,366
February .......
158,803
March ...........
83,374
April .............
207,726
May ...............
165,919
170,111
June .............
July ............... 3,415,017
August ......... 2,417,744
September .....
468,078
October .........
392,175
November ....
479,437
December ..... 1,169,594
Total ....... $9,578,344
First, the industry may well
be proud of its support to the
government. Second, t h e in
dustry is establishing a record
in the role assigned to it to con
tribute toward financing the
prosecution of the war, which
will eventually bring m u c h
satisfaction and credit to it.
Third, the industry is showing
its patriotism in an important
way.
Eventually, the heavy de
mands of the cost of waging
global warfare will no longer
be necessary. Reductions in the
levy will be in order, and no
doubt a fair apportionment of
the reduced need of govern
mental financial requirements
will take place.

M. A. Gerret Corporation
Triples Floor Space
Fast expanding production
of war materials and their reg
ular lines produced by M. A.
Gerett Corp., Milwaukee, has
resulted in the recent purchase
of a large new factory building
located at 722-724 West Win
nebago St., Milwaukee, Wis.
The new factory provides
three times the former floor
space occupied by Gerett. A
fine brick building, centrally
located, with all modern facili
ties f o r production, research
and office requirements, as well
as space for new products now
under consideration.
The M. A. Gerett Corpora
tion moved into the new fact
ory on April 19th, and are now
in full production.
California Legion’s War
on Enemy Propaganda
That dynamo of action, Sam
uel “Curley” Robinson, well
known for his leadership in the
Associated Operators of Los
Angeles County, is also secret
ary of the American Legion,
Dept, of California, whose Rad
ical Research Commission has
for a number of years been in
vestigating subversive activities
in California. In this work to
arouse the people to the danger
from this source, effective steps
have been taken against those
persons and organizations who
desire to destroy our way of
life and substitute in its place
ideologies opposed to the prin
ciples of American freedom.
For the purpose of assisting
e a c h American to recognize
this propaganda and the voice
of our enemies behind it, the
Legion is distributing a book
let entitled “Enemy Propagan
da — Words are Weapons.”
