Denver, Col.— Parking meters are
needed in this city, but Mayor B. F.
Stapleton believes in making a care
ful investigation before awarding the
contract to any one company.
Eleven firms have sent bids to the
city offering to sell meters at prices
ranging from as low as $15 per meter
to $67 per meter. This is on a 2000
order basis according to report. Says
his honor, the Mayor:
“We are not going to rush into the
wrong sort of deal for the city. We
are writing various cities that are
using the different types of meters
to learn of their experiences. The
committee will award the contract to
the best qualified firm after the in
vestigation is completed.”

At the last coin machine show
I saw a low-boy cigarette ma
chine which came to a height
of about four feet and worked
on a chain principle. I believe
the name of the machine was
“General.” Whether or not this
machine is still being manufac
tured, I would appreciate your
sending me the name of the
manufacturer as I would like to
communicate with them.

Residents of Los Angeles can be
sure of one thing political even if
they can’t predict just who’s going to
win the Presidency. The City Coun
cil has defeated a motion to install
parking meters in downtown Los An
geles. The motion was voted down by
a majority of 8 to 4.
Feeling has been that once the
meters obtained a stronghold in the
shopping area, they would spread to
other districts, and residents have
been strongly opposed to such action.
