AUTOMATIC AGE
April, 1941
HITLER MESSES;
CLEM PRODUCES
Operators in England are
talking about “Never Say Die
Clements,” a manufacturer of
penny play machines. It seems
that one of those Hitlerian high
explosive “breadbaskets” fell on
the roof of Clement’s place and
made more or less mincemeat of
it.
Clem himself was saved from
death only by a miracle but did
fall down a flight of stairs and
receive a b a d l y dislocated
shoulder.
Sevarg, the English coin ma
chine reporter, reveals that he
went out to see whether or not
Clements was back on the job.
The road was still full of debris,
but inside Clement’s shop the
wheels were turning and ma
chines were coming off the line.
It is really remarkable to note
that the coin machine industry
is carrying on so gallantly in
England where the trials are
many and where public patron
age cannot possibly be as great
as it was before. Such persist
ence on the part of the opera
tors and t h e manufacturers
should not go unnoticed. These
men are playing a tremendous
ly important role in the scenes
behind the war. To them will go
the glory that belongs to heroes
who keep up the nation’s cour
age and morals in time of stress.
