We handed the telegram to Opera
tor Charlie who happened to be in
the office.
“ Well,” quoth Charlie, “ I know the
taste of German beer, I know the
taste of London gin, and I know the
taste of Italian wine, but I don t
know the taste of French women.
We told him that reminded us of
a story got off by a couple of vaude-
villians. Said the first one:
“ I saw a goat down the street with
his nose cut off.”
“ How did he smell?” asked the
second one.
“ Terrible.”
That reminded Operator Charlie of
one. The stage cop arrested the
comedian.
. ,
. ,
“ What’s your name?’ demanded
the cop.
“ Jule,” replied the comedian.^
“ Jule? You’re name’s Julius.”
Said the comedian: “ If my name
was Bill would it be bilious? Or if
it was Jack would it be Jack-us.
Other stories were told which it
would be healthier not to pnnt.
