p receptibly w ith the approach o f the
Christm as season, a ccord in g to a sur­
v ey b y the D epartm ent o f C om m erce
o f markets fo r con fection ery in E n g ­
land, Canada, the N ear East, and
A frica .
A m ei’ican gum has been so gen er­
ally accepted b y the Britains th at
sales are v ery little affected in com pe­
tition with the Island-m ade variety
selling at ap proxim ately on e-h a lf the
price.
France, Denm ark, and S co t­
land are also large con.sumero o f gum
w ith G erm any fa s t acquiring a taste
w hich should result in a larger sales
by the U nited States.
D iscussing con fection ery generally,
the rep ort says that with the possible
ex ception
o f Continental E u rope,
w here easy access to raw m aterials
have developed the m arket to a p oin t
w here A m erican exporters find it hard
to m eet price com petition o f foi'eig n
