WMs TZ CtocK Moo (coN'T)
was originally intended) will cut the intensity of
the lamps by 1/2, resulting in a lot less heat.
If you replace those four zero ohm jumpers with
diodes, you effectively halve the 6.3 Vac GI volt-
age -you're only getting the positive (or negative)
half of the voltage. This dims the lights, eliminates
a good bit of heat, and has the nice side effect of
making the bulbs last a lot longer before they con-
sider burning out.

HEAT PROBLEM FIXED
Air vents and those diodes will fix almost any
cronic heat problem. The only thing you have to
watch out for is optos already damaged by heat -
these will need replacement. After that, it should
never need any more work. I've fixed several this
way and never had one go bad after the fix.
To CHECK IF YOUR OPTos ARE DEAD, DEAD
Start the game up cold and run the clock test. If
the opto works, you're okay -drill your vent holes
and you'll be fine. If it doesn't work, you've fried
'em from the heat buildup.
Congratulations to those
in Williamswho designed the clock.

To gain accurate time, roll the dice and remove all
the gears. Truarc 'E' rings are used to retain the
gears on the shafts. If you aren't experienced with
removing these rings, the words "Oh, Sh*t" are
usually followed by the sound 'plink' as the ring
flies off and hides forever. I used needlenose pliers
and a small rag to discourage 'ring flight'. A little
light machine oil (about what sticks to a needle)
spread on each shaft and some E/M pinball step-
ping disk grease spread by my finger was applied
to each gear.
