In reviewing a working copy of
this program from JMB Technol-
ogy, I must say that this software,
although not complete at this
time, is so much better than ver- •
sion 2.
LOADING
Whether you are using an 8088
or a 80586 computer, or maybe
something in between, the load-
ing is so much easier than V.2. In
V.2 you first had to make a direc-
tory on your hard drive, use a disk
copy command to copy the pro-
gram from the disk to the new
directory on the hard drive. Af-
ter that was done you may have
to reconfigure your Config.sys
file.
With the new V.3 it is all done for
you. Just pop the disk in and type
a simple command. The program
will look at your system and cre-
ate it's own directory, unpack the
program into that directory and
even update your config.sys file
if need be.
RUNNING TIIE PROGRAM
With the V.2 you had to make
sure you were in the STJ2 direc-
tory before you could launch the
program. But with the V.3 you
only need to be a the C:I> and just
type "STJ" and the program will
fire right up.
If the V.2 had a problem running
or gave you an error, you would
have to reload the whole program
and maybe change your
Config.sys file. With V.3 you sim-
ply click on the File window and
click on Reconfig.Data, choose
STJ, Fonebook, or Areacode and
hit enter. The program will do the
rest. ( see Fig 1) The program will
run in either DOS or Windows.
AnoUTrnE PROGRAM
Both the V.2 and V.3 use a pop-
up window type system. With V.2,
each window you open will pop
it over an existing window on the
screen. I found it very hard to
move through the different
menus. Selecting different pa-
rameters and locate the articles
in the data base, I found it all very
confusing.
But with V.3, t~e windows open
next to each other. (see screen
shots). Just click on Search and it
will put you into the SearchNiew
menu, then click on Find and a
window will open to ask you how
you would like to search ( see Fig
2). You can choose by A.E.N. ( en-
try number), Manufacturer ( com-
pany name) Model (name of the
game) or by Related Type (i.e.
videos, cranes, redemption).
Click on your choice and another
window will open. Type in the
name and hit Enter and up comes
the list of all the articles written
on that game or company. Sim-
ply cycle through until you find
the title you are looking for and
hit Enter. A window will open
and display the volume and num-
b er where the article will be
found.
NEW IN VERSION 3.0
But that's not all V.3 can do. It
also has a Fonebook feature and
an Areacode feature.
In the Fonebook, it works as easy
as the database. Just click on
Fonebook to open it. Click on
Find and you can search by Com-
pany name or Contact name. Just
type in the information and tap
Enter and up comes the name,
address, phone and fax numbers,
ext., contact name and a section
to type any comments you want
to remember.
