Piano Sales Show 90.66% Increase in 1939
Mr. Cyril Farny, vice-president and manager of the De-
Kalb division of The Rudolph Wurlitzer Company, in a com-
munication just received by Presto Music Times says: "New
designs, unique style, and improved tone quality are three
reasons for the unusual progress made by Wurlitzer during
the past year. The new designs and colorful finishes of the
latest piano styles have been primary factors in stimulating
greater interest in pianos. Wurlitzer through these means
has contributed a notable share toward the general increase
of piano sales and this is evidenced by comparing Wurlitzer
piano sales for 1939 with those of previous years. According
to figures issued by the National Association of Piano Manu-
facturers, the industry as a whole showed an increase of
27.42% in shipments. These figures show that Wurlitzer con-
tributed a most important share of the industry's performance.

"Ase we enter the second month of the new year it is
gratifying to note the increasing interest in piano music.
More children are studying the piano than ever before. More
adults, too, are beginning to realize the increased enjoyment
that can be found in musical self expression. These facts
coupled with the steadily increasing volume of sales lead us
to believe that 1940 production will exceed last year's record
by many thousands."
