TONER INSTITUTE INSTALLS ORGATRON
The striking photograph reproduced above was taken in
Our Lady of the Angels Chapel, one of the main buildngs of
Toner Institute, Brookline, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The il-
lustration shows the console of the Orgatron installed in the
Chapel recently by the C. C. Mellor Co., of Pittsburgh. This
unusual picture tells a story about the beauty of this lovely
chapel much more vividly than words.
Toner Institute takes its name from the late Dr. Jamse L.
Toner of Derry Township, Westmoreland Country, Pennsyl-
vania. By his will he provided a fund to establish a school
for the training and education of boys. In 1899 the school was
begun on a farm neary Derry. In 1914 the Most Reverend
Bishop transferred the institution to Brookline in the South
Hills of Pittsburgh.
In 1917 the Very Rev. Sigmund Cratz, O. M. Cap., took
charge of the Institute. At present, Toner provides a home for
130 boys between the ages of 6 and 14.
The School is equipped with an excellent manual train-
ing department besides the eight primary grades. During the
past thirty-eight years of its existence, over 5,000 boys have
been trained and equipped to meet the problems of modern
living.
Extra curricular activities of the boys include a fine thirty-
five piece band, a boy scout troup, a champion baseball team,
sports of all kinds and the Toner Choristers, a choir which has
made a name for itself singing for services in the chapel.
