ECHOES FROM THE MUSIC INDUSTRIES - Continued
GOLDEN
ANNUAL NATIONAL
ANNIVERSARY
The Jenkins Music House Let-
terheads these days- carry the at-
tractive and "Honorable Mention"
Line, "Our 50th Year." The
career of the Jenkins House is an
honorable record, indeed, start-
ing 50 years ago in a modest and
economical way, as befitted the
pocket book of the founder, J. W.
Jenkins, known as "J- W. the
elder." The business has grown
to become one of the biggest and
most important music establish-
ments of this continent and the
control of the business all these
years has been in the Jenkins
family.
MEETING OF AD MANAGERS
Lawrence H. Selz, publicity agent for the piano industry,
announces that there will be a meeting of the Association of
Advertising Managers of the Piano Manufacturers imme-
diately after the Retail Piano Sales Clinic on February 6th,
in the Hotel New Yorker. The purpose of this meeting is to
have all the manufacturers cooperate in publicizing Music
Week, May 7th to 14th.
MUSIC CLINIC
This clinic combined with the Official Annual Meeting of
National School Band Association
National School Orchestra Association
National School Vocal Association
was held at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana,
on January 5, 6, and 7.
It is interesting to learn what an important series of meet-
ings this clinic comprised for it included the following:
Tenth Annual University of Illinois Band Clinic.
Eighth Annual National School Band Association
Clinic.
Second Annual National School Orchestra Associa-
tion Clinic.
First Annual National School Vocal Association
Clinic.
A special feature of Thursday's program was the Wood-
wind Clinic under the chairmanship of George Wain. In the
evening at 10:15 o'clock the Annual Smoker and Talk Fest
was held in Bradley Hall.
All of Friday morning was devoted to Band Readings, a
Brass Clinic, and a business meeting. The afternoon was
given to readings, adjudications, and business meetings; the
Saturday morning witnessed some fine contests of choirs,
orchestras, and bands, with a talk by George F. Strickling,
Heights High School, Cleveland Heights, Ohio, entitled. "The
New Deal in Music."
