SCHILLER
A GREAT NAME—A GREAT PIANO
GLENN DIL.LARD GUNN AT LEFT; C. H. DeACRES AT RIGHT.
Faculty and students in the summer classes at the
Gunn School of Music recently received good news.
The studios and practice rooms of the Gunn School,
410 South Michigan avenue, Chicago, will be equipped
with Steinway Grand pianos.
This photograph was snapped just as the contract
was consummated between Glenn Dillard Gunn, pres-
ident of the music school and music critic for the
Chicago Herald Examiner, and C. H. DeAcres, vice-
president and general manager of Lyon & Healy.
Lyon & Healy is sole agent for the famous Steinway
piano in Chicago and vicinity.
In speaking" of the transaction with Lyon & Healy,
Mr. Gunn remarked:
"Permit me to express the gratification I feel be-
cause of the connection established between Gunn
School of Music and the historic firms of Lyon &
Healy and Steinway & Sons. Also permit me to
inform you of the satisfaction my faculty derives from
the beautiful pianos furnished us.
"The workman must have his tools. The teacher
who has the good fortune to be engaged with talents
of the first rank must have an artistic piano on which
to train them.
"The steinway is such an instrument and needs no
endorsement of mine to add to its prestige. Yet in
all the distinguished recognition which the Steinway
has earned through the years, it seems to have oc-
curred to no one to say that in the process of making
an artist such an instrument is indispensable. Stein-
way makes the Artist."
GOOD CROPS IN N. W. ILLINOIS.
to be seen anywhere. Oats are raised in limited
areas in the region, and the oats were suffering from
the drouth, as they were still green and only ma-
turing. The whole region is a district of some of
the richest farmers in the United States, and it ought
to be good territory in which to sell pianos after
those good crops are marketed.
A Presto-Times representative who took a trip
on July 20th over the Chicago Great Western road
from Chicago to Dubuque, Iowa, and down the Mis-
sissippi river to Bellevue, Iowa, on the great steamer,
Capitol, made note of the wonderful crops that were
.maturing in all that region—part of "the bread
basket of the world." After getting fifty miles away
from Chicago we passed through seemingly endless
fields of wheat—two-fifths of it in the shock and the
other three-fifths ripe and ready to cut. There was
wheat as far as the eye could carry on each side of
the railroad, and even "wheat in the sky" in the
Berkshires of Illinois as the region west of Byron
is known. The corn, too, and that was the other
principal crop, looked very healthy, a rich green,
and very, very promising—not a poor patch of corn
