OBITUARY
FRANK C. DECKER IS DEAD.
Frank C. Decker, president of Decker & Son, piano
manufacturers at 699 East 135th street, Bronx, died
on August 2 at his home, 605 West 156th street, Man-
hattan, after a lingering illness. He was in his sev-
enty-fourth year. The firm of Decker & Son was
established by Frank's father, Myron A. Decker, in
1856.
Mr. Decker had been engaged in the manufacture
of pianos for the last fifty-six years. He served as
president of the New York Piano Manufacturers'
Association from 1907 to 1909 and as president of the
National Association of Piano Manufacturers of Amer-
ica in 1910. He was a member of several fraternal
organizations.
He is survived by a widow, a son, Frank C. Jr.,
secretary of Decker & Son; a daughter, Mrs. C. A.
Van Winkle of Rutherford, N. J., and two sisters,
Miss May F. Decker and Mrs. W. S. Coburn, both of
Atlantic City.
W. H. DANIELS, BUFFALO, DIES.
William H. Daniels, 71, president of Denton, Cottier
& Daniels, Buffalo, N. Y., music instrument dealers,
died on August 10. Mr. Daniels started with the com-
pany as errand boy fifty-nine years ago, became a
partner twelve years later and eventually continued
the business as sole owner. Mr. Daniels was a repub-
lican in politics and in 1901 was elected treasurer of
Erie County.
Allen B. Safford, who was widely known for many
years in Chicago as a piano man, died recently at his
home in Miami, Fla. He sold many hundreds of
Cable Co. pianos.
Among the prominent men of the trade who died
in July was Otto Higel, 62, head of the Otto Higel,
Ltd., Toronto manufacturers of piano actions.
