RECENT HAPPENINGS IN
WISCONSIN MUSIC TRADE
Interes'ing Items Which Show Keen Interest in
Music at Many Points.
Henry D. Hesse, 66, prominent in Milwaukee
musical circles and for five years president of the
Milwaukee Musical Society, the city's oldest musical
organization, died there recently following a brief
illness. Mr. Hesse was prominent in Milwaukee edu-
cational circles being principal of several of the city's
schools for many years. Mr. Hesse's wife is his sole
survivor.

Cook & Wilk has opened a Wurlitzer music store
at 62nd and Greenfield avenue. The store will carry
a complete stock of Wurlitzer musical instruments
besides the Wurlitzer radios.
Wisconsin high school musicians are to be offered
an opportunity to participate in an all-state music
festival which will be held at the University of Wis-
consin at Madison on May 11 and 12, it was an-
nounced by Professor E. B. Gordon of the Uni-
versity School of Music this week. This festival is
to take the place of the high school music contest
held in previous years.
STULTZ & BAUER CREDITORS.
Harold P. Coffin, New York, referee in bankruptcy,
last week notified creditors of the old Stuhz & Bauer
Company, New York, that the final meeting of the
creditors will be held at his office, 217 Broadway,
December 19, when the creditors may inspect the
vouchers of Alfred L. Smith, trustee. If there are
funds in the Hands of the trustee applicable to a
dividend to creditors, a dividend will be declared.
IN THE TENT OF OMAR.
A special exhibition of Art and Period styles of
grand pianos was held at the Wilking Music Com-
pany, 120 East Ohio street, Indianapolis, from De-
cember 8 to 20. The store was open evenings during
exposition and no goods were sold during exhibi-
tion.
The notable showing was made in "'The Tent of
Omar," which was suitably decorated and furnished
with choice Orientals from Herman Rug Co., light-
ing fixtures and lamps from Goldstein Bros, and fur-
niture from Oilar Furniture Shops.
On Saturday, December the 10th, the first official
showing of the new period models manufactured by
the Jesse French & Sons Piano Company, Xew
Castle, Indiana, was held at the warerooms of the
Wilking Music Company. The instruments were in
"Omar's Tent," which was constructed in part of
the wareroomi of blue sLriped satin, and laid with
costly Oriental rugs and hangings, and period furni-
ture to match. On entering the tent the first instru-
ment to be adaaiired was a special design grand in
crotch walnut. This instrument was built especially
for the New York exhibit, and is not included in the
regular production, and is never to be duplicated.
It is a fine example of rare veneer, and something
very artistic and unique has been accomplished in
the laying of it. The finish is perfect, with bench to
match. The instrument carries the same sweet tone

characteristic of all instruments made by the New
Castle industry.
The Spanish Renassaiuce model in high lighted
walnut, with bench to match is another creation of
art, with Spanish curves carried orrt irr-rlesig-n. The
Louis XVI is something new and apart from the
ordinary design being duplicated. It is slightly more
ornate, and the antique finish is an entirely new proc-
ess, bringing out more forcibly the light and dark in
the shading.
The Queen Anne style is a fine sample of the
period, each leg with a graceful curve and carried
out in the hand carved capping, music desk bench and
general ensemble.
Manufacture of many new and beautiful Period
models of pianos by the Jesse French & Sons Piano
Co., New Castle, Ind., in the past few months, is
centering the attention of the piano dealers more
closely on the progressive activities of this fine New
Castle industry.
These beautiful pianos, bringing out all the beauty
of the Florentine, Jacobean, Italian, Renaissance,
Spanish Renaissance and Queen Ann furniture de-
sign, are finding great favor and dealers report that
sales are unusually heavy in these, the finer designs,
of instruments.
The latest feature in this line is the antique finish-
ing art that has been added. This brings out much
of the hidden beauty of the fine wood that is used
in the cases, and enhances the beauty of the most
beautiful of materials.
To match the Period design pianos, the plant is
also making a Period design chair, to replace the
bench or the stool. However, the bench may also
be had in period design to match the piano.
Another piano being made in the New Castle plant
that is attracting great attention, and that is selling
even beyond the fondest expectations of its designers,
the '"Boudoir," designed primarily for small apart-
ments, is among the recent additions to the Jesse
French & Sons lines.
A little over a year ago the New Castle plant
started the manufacture of the electric reproducing
grand. This great instrument has captured its field
and held it consistently.
