TONKBENCH
INSTRUCTION
Little Magazine for January-February of the
Tonk Manufacturing Co., Chicago, Filled
with Wisdom for Dealers.
Tonk Topics, edited by Percy A. Tonk and dis-
tributed by the Tonk Manufacturing Co., 1912 Lewis
street, Chicago, is a little magazine of interest and
instruction for everybody in the music business.
When it deals with general music trade themes it
pleasantly preaches the wisdom of buying and sell-
ing; when it devotes itself to its real mission, creat-
ing and augmenting enthusiasm for Tonkbenches, it
exhibits an ardor that convinces.
Tonk Topics for January-February has eighteen
pages of wisdom for music dealers. A timely article
on "Period Popularity" is filled with suggestions to
the dealer that assuredly lead to increased profits.
It is a theme which naturally points out the relation
of Tonk benches to the artistic Period styles in
pianos which now so much invite the attention of
piano buyers.
The merits of Tonkbenches of the Period type arc
illustrated by cuts of two Period models in Tonk-
benches. a William and Mary and a Queen Anne.
Each with the truth to type that distinguishes the
product of the Tonk Manufacturing Co.
Another article is named "Simplicity," and of
course it relates the most desirable characteristic in
the K. I). Tonkbench. Tonk Topics tells how the
new K. 1). 77 Tonkbench was evolved and the orig-
inal design of the style adhered to in the processes
of manufacture:
"When we designed the new K. D. 77 Tonkbench,"
writes Mr. Tonk, "I told 'the boys in the factory that
1 would not O. K. any bench which could not be put
together by my nine-year-old boy with a screwdriver
as his only tool, both for the unpacking and setting
up of the bench . . . We had a mighty interest-
ing battle, but we met the specifications."
THE SCHOOL ORCHESTRAS.
"School Orchestras—How They May Be Devel-
oped" is the title of a new booklet written by J. £•
Maddy, chairman of the Committee on Instrumental
Affairs of the Music Supervisors' National Conference
and published by the National Bureau for the Ad-
vancement of Music in the special interest of the
National Musical Merchandise Association.
MAHOGANY IMPORTS BIG.
The imports of hardwood and cabinet woods into
the United States from January to November, 1926,
amounted to $12,281,112, according to the Bureau of
Foreign and Domestic Commerce. The cabinet woods
were mostly mahogany.
Worry Over Player Details
is avoided by the manufac-
turer who uses the

that the best musical quali-
