NEW HALLET & DAVIS
BOOKLET MAKES SALES
Words of Great Masters and Tributes to Piano
by Artists of Today Convincing
Testimony for Buyers.
The Hallet & Davis Piano Company, Boston, has
issued for the use of dealers a handsome booklet
that describes the fine range of instruments made and
distributed by the company and the ideal facilities for
making them. The Hallet & Davis pianos have been
made in Boston since 1839. Today the company's
most modern factory employs men with ideals—a
purpose. The art of piano making is a tradition
with Hallet & Davis workers who pass it on from
generation to generation. For almost a century
Hallet & Davis pianos have been used and endorsed
by pianists and composers whose judgment is re-
spected.
The immortal Liszt proclaimed the excellence of
the Hallet & Davis to the world at the Paris Exposi-
tion of 1867 when he said: "The distinguishing ad-
vantages—peculiar richness of tone and extreme
solidarity of construction—were evident to the eye
and ear in the most admirable instrument manufac-
tured by Hallet & Davis of Boston." It is musical
history that Rubinstein held his audience spellbound
with the Hallet & Davis grand, and that Franz Abt
and many contemporaries believed it far ahead of
any other piano.
Confirming the judgment of these old masters,
among the present-day artists, we find such leading
authorities as Mary Garden, Abbe Perosi, Florencio
Constantino, Johann Strauss, Tito Schipa, Yvonne
Gall and many others who acknowledged the suprem-
acy of the Hallet & Davis.
In addition to written testimonials from those
named are others, notably those of Abbe Perosi,
chapel master and composer at the Vatican, director
of the famous Sistine choir and one of the greatest
authorities on sacred music, and M. Bohn, famous
authority of Berlin, Germany.
A group picture of a few of the medals and awards
won by the Hallet & Davis piano gives the prospec-
tive buyer an idea of the acknowledged excellence of
the instruments. "But, after all, the supreme recom-
pense is the eminence Hallet & Davis pianos have
obtained in the thousands of homes where they have
provided the music, and the long list of pianists, pro-
fessional and amateur, who have educated with them,"
is the important statement in the booklet.
A general description of the construction of Hallet
& Davis pianos is given in clear untechnical lan-
guage in the booklet. How mechanical perfection is
achieved is told: "Every phase of mill work is per-
formed within the four walls of our modern daylight
factory. Modern methods and up-to-date machinery
—the best equipped piano factory in the world.
Many of the devices used are original, built by our
own men. Hence the mechanical perfection asso-
ciated with Hallet & Davis pianos. Their richness
and fullness of tone is due to the exacting precision
exercised in the stringing and the sounding board
construction. The accumulated experience of eighty-
six years of fine piano building is built into every
Hallet & Davis piano today."
A special description of the Hallet & Davis Vir-
tuola makes clear the simplicity and efficiency of the
action in the player. "In the individual pneumatic
valve of this wonderful action alone there are fifteen
less parts than is usually found in other player
actions. This means that the Virtuola throughout is
practically trouble-proof," is the assurance. Peter
B. Kyne, the famous novelist, is quoted as saying,
"For relaxation from the creative work of writing I
turn frequently to my Virtuola, selecting from its
rich library of compositions those which suit the
moment's fancy. I mid in this music both inspira-
tion and diversion."
Included with the booklet for distribution by deal-
ers are loose-leaf pictures with descriptions. These
include the Petite model and Puritan model of the
Hallet & Davis Virtuola, the Conway Virtuola and
Lexington Virtuola; Hallet & Davis Art Grand,
Hallet & Davis Empress Grand, Conway Baby Grand,
and Lexington Reproducing Grand. The upright
pianos pictures are the Hallet & Davis Styles " F "
and "A," Lexington Style "22" and Conway new
Style "44."

MME. PAVLOWA COMMENDS
MODELLO PLAYER PIANO
Famous Artist in Letter Also Expresses Her Pleas-
ure at Use of Baldwin Concert Grand.
The following is a translation of a letter in Span-
ish sent to the Repertorio Nacional de Musica, S. A.,
by Mme. Anna Pavlowa:
Gentlemen: I wish to thank you most cordially
for the Modello Playerpiano, No. 144214, a Baldwin
product, which you so kindly sent to my residence
while in Mexico City and which I have played with
great pleasure during my leisure hours. I was also
very much pleased with the Mexican rolls and I will
not forget that music, of which 1 am carrying with
me very pleasant reminiscences.
I was also very much pleased with the magnificent
Baldwin Concert Grand which you placed at my dis-
posal for my engagements at the Esperanza Iris
Theater of this city. The Baldwin piano has been
my friend for a long time. I am an enthusiastic
admirer of it and it was really a great pleasure for
me to find a Baldwin in this beautiful city, just as
I have found it in many important foreign cities
which I have visited in the past.
Very sincerely yours,
ANNA" PAVLOWA.
