of Saturday Musicale.
The Samuels-Bittner Music Co., Owensboro, Ky.,
of which W. S. Samuels is manager, is foremost in
fostering the music spirit in that city. The company
aids in a special way the efforts of The Saturday
Musicale of Owensboro to stimulate the practical
expression of that spirit. The history and achieve-
ments of that organization are told by Mr. Samuels
in the Owensboro Inquirer of Sunday, May 2. The
article said, in part:
The Saturday Musicale was organized in Septem-
ber, 1896, and is now in its twenty-ninth year of

carried on well denned study programs of the great
masters and schools of music.
Through its initiative many artists and musical or-
ganizations have been brought to the city, such as
Riccardo Martin, Florence Macbeth, Merle Alcock,
Albert Spalding, Frances MacMillan and the St.
Louis Symphony Orchestra, thus affording the music
lovers of the community an opportunity to hear out-
standing artists and the music students great educa-
tional advantages. It has by the organization of
Junior and Juvenile Musicale afforded great encour-
agement to the children of the city to carry on their
work and they are making better advancement since
these clubs were formed than before.
The Saturday Musicale inaugurates the observance
of Music Week four years ago, being the second city
in Kentucky to give a week to music.
Music Week is not meant as a music festival, with
great artists and music for the few who can afford
it. but it is intended to be a community affair with
special music in churches, schools, clubs, mission,
and programs by home folks for home folks. These
