Harry Pearson Returns to Familiar Work and
Tells an Instructive Story About the
Necessity of Caution.
Editor Presto: You said it! I am back IN the
piano game—capital IN please. You know 'I love it
and the many dear friends I have made in every
branch of the Music Trade—the greatest bunch of
good-hearted scouts one can possibly find. Of course
they don't all agree with me, but that's what makes it
interesting and there is the rare possibility I may
be wrong.
Well, anyway, there was a friendship started many
years ago between three young men, just starting

Admirably Located and Suitably Equipped.

The Ferris Music Shop, Geneva, N. Y., which
features Gulbransen Registering Piano and other
instruments, has moved from 106 Seneca St. to 473
Exchange St., and is holding a formal opening this
week.
The new store is much larger than the old one
occupied by the company for many years at 106
Seneca Street and the purchase of the fixtures from
the Celco 'Studios of Rochester has given the Ferris
Shop up-to-date and attractive store equipment.
An orchestra was provided for the opening and
there was a number of novel features that held the
interest of local people who visited the Ferris Shop.

a taxi driving by suddenly stopped and a head ap-
peared at the door, asking: "Can you direct me to
Columbia avenue?"—naming a prominent resident. I
immediately recognized the speaker as a well known
Milwaukee piano salesman.
After giving the desired information I went to
lunch and then called at the Columbia ovenue address
asking the lady who appeared at the door if she was
interested in the purchase of a piano?
She said that any one would think so, from all
the piano men calling. I said: "Yes, madam, ^that's
the way I found out."
And I told her of the incident already stated. She
thought it a pretty good joke and within ten days I
sold the head of the house a beautiful Conover piano.
The Milwaukee piano salesman, I suppose to this
day, doesn't know just how he happened to lose
that sale.

in the music, or rather, piano game. One was that
grand old scout, Geo. M. Slawson. Another was
dear happy Chicago senior travelers for The Cable
Company, John J. Muttell, now traveler for The
Packard Co., Fort Wayne, Ind., and the third the
writer of this article. There has never been a break
in this friendship.
Some few weeks ago the writer met John J.
Buttell at the Davenport Hotel, Davenport, Iowa,
where we had a good visit, going through the game
of making, buying and selling pianos, and various
other incidents, and when we finally parted, at mid-
night, we both agreed the grandest, best and dearest
old scout living was our mutual friend, Geo. M. Slaw-
son.
And, talking of old friends, it seemed like meeting
an old friend to again get PRESTO, in the same
old form.
It sure did look mighty good to me, as I had not
seen one since my residence in Washington, D. C.
I am very pleasantly located. A. E. Nelson, who
has charge of the Tri-City Piano Co. store, a mighty
fine fellow, and a thoroughly clean business-getter.
And the Haddorff line of pianos is a fine one and
easy to sell the clean way. A one-price system
throughout.
Moline, 111., July. 10, 1924.
A piano man should be careful from whom he gets
information.
Some few years ago, while in Neenah, Wisconsin,
The looseness of the former Netherlands East
Indies trade-marks act gave rise to so vicious a
growth of imitations and infringements that the col-
lective pressure of Indian Chambers of Commerce
has for many months been brought to bear on the
government for a more practical restatement of the
law. A revision, therefore, has been made to the
effect that "anyone who imports goods into the
Dutch Indies which bear imitations of the name or
mark to which another has a legal right, or which in
themselves are imitations of any known registered
brand or brands of goods in whatever degree, and
who stocks such goods, delivers or offers them for
sale, or distributes the same for purposes of sale, will
be liable to be fined a specified sum.
PREPARE FOR CONVENTION.
All the Ohio music trade associations and individ-
ual members of the Music Merchants' Association of
Ohio are energetically working to make the conven-
tion of the state organization in September, the most
successful event of the kind ever planned by a trade
body. Henry Dreher, head of the Dreher Piano Co,
has been assigned to the historian's job. In an ad-
dress Mr. Dreher will review the activities of the state
body since its formation.
