PRESTO
NEW YORK'S NEW PIANO
ROW WILL BE GORGEOUS
Fine Buildings of Steinway & Sons, Chicker-
ing Hall, Story & Clark and Sohmer & Co.
Will Make Strong Showing.
Fifty-seventh street, New York city, is destined to
be the center of the nation's Piano Row. That fash-
ionable thoroughfare is luring the finest of the piano
houses of the metropolis from Fifth avenue and other
localities which have become famous for their splen-
did piano warerooms.
The new Steinway Hall will be ready for occupancy
in the spring of 1925. Already New York news-
papers carry announcements inviting applications for
office space. And the imposing picture of the build-
ing gives assurance of one of the finest of the uptown
structures. The foundation work is well under way.
The Chickering building also is a splendid one.
On either side of the great walls the famous Boston
name appears, and also that of the "Ampico," with
the decoration of the Legion of Honor, which was
awarded to the late Frank Chickering between them.
The Sohmer Building has been described and illus-
trated in earlier issues of Presto. It is the fine piano
center of an unquestionably artistic instrument.
The Story & Clark Piano Co. building at 33 West
57th street is also a splendid home of a famous old
industry. Finishing touches are still being put upon
the building, and when fully completed it will com-
pare with even its gorgeous neighbors. A series of
high-grade concerts is being given by the Story &
Clark management. One of the programs—that of
Wednesday of this week, the 28th, shows what is

SOME UNUSUAL LETTERS
ABOUT THE RADLE PIANOS
One Dealer Says They Are so Good He Can't Keep
Them in Stock.
It's always pleasing to read commendatory letters
about good pianos. Now and then some dealer with
an original way of saying things writes to the manu-
facturers. Following are extracts from several letters

DELIGHTED WITH HIS
WELTE=MIGN0N LICENSEE
Los Angeles Attorney Writes of His Decker & Son
Piano and Reproducing Action.
Decker & Son of Los Angeles, Cal., recently sold
a Decker & Son Baby Grand, equipped with the
Welte-Mignon (Licensee) Reproducing Action, to
Vincent B. Vaughn, a prominent attorney. That Mr.
Vaughan is more than pleased with the instrument is
proven by the following letter which he wrote to
Decker & Sons:
"Mr. G. A. C. Bailey,
"Los Angeles, Calif.
"Dear Mr. Bailey: The Decker & Son Baby Grand
Welte-Mignon delivered a few days ago and adjusted
by you is now giving complete satisfaction. The
tone is beautiful, the mechanism smooth and sound-
less and the design a real ornament. Mrs. Vaughan
and the children are more than delighted; the sim-
plicity of operation permitting the youngsters to play
at will. Many of my friends have visited the house
and all have expressed the opinion that the Decker
& Son Welte-Mignoii is at least on a par, if not supe-
rior, to any of the other reproducing type of instru-
ments.
"Let me express to you my appreciation of the
clean cut way in which the entire transaction was
handled. Although the piano was purchased sight
unseen and a delay was necessary for shipment from
the factory, all of your statements and the represen-
tations relative to the same have been fulfilled.
"In connection with prospective sales, you may feel
free to use my name as a reference.
"Very truly yours,
"VINCENT B. VAUGHAN."
NEW STARR MODEL IN
THE SMALL STYLE GRAND
Active Industry of Richmond, Ind., Designs Instru-
ments for Use in Apartments and Bungalows.
In order to comply with the present-day demand
for small pianos the Starr Piano Co., Richmond, Ind.,
has perfected two new instruments in the small grand
and upright. Both instruments are complete in every
detail and their compactness does not interfere with
the tone, which has the characteristic power of all
Starr pianos.
In many homes the small piano is preferred, as it is
conservative as a space saver. It is also attractive,
as it will fit in places where a larger piano would be
out of place.
It is in this capacity that the small Starr grand and
upright will meet popular demand. Convenience is
a great item in these days and the Starr company
proposes to give its customers and dealers what is
easy and prolifable to sell.
OPENS IN BUFFALO.
The Escher Music Shop was opened recently at No.
17 East Mohawk street, Buffalo, N. Y., opposite
Locw's State Theater, with a general line of music
goods and sheet music. Teachers' supplies in ssheet
music and music books are featured. The store also
carries violins, banjos, saxophones, drums and
ukuleles. Hobart R. McCoy, the manager of the de-
partments for pianos, etc., is a clever pianist.
ANOTHER STAG FROLIC.
Another big stag frolic for Chicago Piano Club
members and their friends is announced. This will
be even bigger and better than the last frolic because
it's the "Pep" meeting of the year and the last big
event before the national music trades convention. It
also winds up the big membership drive.
The big show will be at the Tiger Room, Hotel
Sherman, at 6:30 p. m. Tuesday, May 27, 1924.

inally planned, to conform to the regular events of
