WAYS TO PHONOGRAPH SALES
They Are Many and Different in Their Potency to
Effect Highly Desirable End.
The means for increasing sales in talking machines
arc similar to those available for improving sales in
any other lines of musical merchandise. But thanks
to the special aids provided by manufacturers of
talking machines for their dealers, the opportunities
for the talking machine seems greater. The efforts
for the records are also efforts for the machines and
the results in talking machine sales of any house are
dependent on the intensity of the work in record
selling.
As a standing, all the year 'round bit of advice,
dealers are advised to circularize continuously. The
town-wide canvass in which the telephone and tele-
phone directory are used to good advantage is recom-
mended for its effectiveness. But in any kind of
canvass of a territory the dealer should use dis-
crimination in selecting the prospects. In the indis-
criminate use of literature and time is the possibility
of wasted efforts.
A good way to find buyers of new machines is to
lind the owner of old models and go after them
with the same energy expended on people without
machines. There are a variety of ways to compile a
list of old model owners. Inquiry from new pur-
chasers usually results in additions 'to the prospect
list. The buyers of records provide the salesman
or saleswoman with the means of much promising
information for the salesmen in the talking machine
department. The piano tuner and the repairman can
locate the old models and perhaps drop preliminary
suggestions leading to consideration of a new talking
machine. But the ways are many and the means
unending for the enthusiastic dealer with talking
machines to sell.
