LUMBER PRICES.
The Japanese disaster and the formal recognition
of Mexico by the United States Government are two
influences leading to increased buying of lumber and
of course the consequent stiffening of prices, accord-
ing to "Lumber," which adds: "Hardwoods are in
somewhat firmer position, freer buying on the part
of industrial consumers being in evidence."
OLD ALAMEDA HOUSE.
M. Franck & Son, the oldest music goods house in
Alameda, Cal., has provided more demonstration
facilities for its spacious warerooms. Three lines of
talking machines are handled. The firm was estab-
lished 28 years ago and has continued to grow since
that time. The house prides itself upon its excellent
service.
A TOLEDO ANNIVERSARY.
The Lion Store Music Rooms recently offered spe-
cial inducements to talking machine record buyers in
connection with the 66th anniversary celebration of
the firm. The daily newspapers were generously
used to tell of the opportunities of the special sale.

George NouSurg, of Albion, traveling man for a
New York firm which specialized in old violins, was
in Rochester, Ind., recently and examined the "Jean
Baptiste" violin owned by Donald Stahl, says the
Peru, Ind., Journal, which says:
After examining the old instrument Nouburg said
that the violin was one of four of this model made
by the famous French master. One of them is
owned by a Goshen man, one has been lost, the one
that Mr. Stahl owns and another one was recently
sold to a collector in Copenhagen, Denmark, for $15,-
000. Mr. Nouburg offered the local man a high price
for his violin but he refused to sell the instrument.
Donald Stahl bought the violin of F. A. Bellamy, of
Cleveland, Ohio, who played in a symphony orches-
tra with him at Winona Lake this summer."
