BIG GRAPHOPHONE PURCHASE
Stock of Columbia Machines and Records in Atlanta
Bought by Haverty's.
A purchase of great magnitude has just been made
by the chain store system of the Haverty Furniture
Company, which recently bought the entire stock of
Columbia Grafonolas and records contained in the
Atlanta, Ga., warehouse of the Columbia Grapho-
phone Company, the distributing point of the south-
eastern district. This represents the largest purchase
of its kind ever made in the South by the retail
stores.
The purchase consists of several cars of grafonolas
and 58,000 records. The deal is an indication that
business is good in the South and is an evidence of
the faith the Haverty Furniture Company has in the
public. '
The Charleston, S. C, store will receive its portion
of this purchase, this week. It is a large one, and
will be offered at attractive prices, made possible by
the magnitude of the deal.
INDIANA ACCORDION FACTORY
New Incorporated Company Begins Operations in
Berne Under Supervision of Expert.
Berne, Ind., now has a, company actively engaged
in the manufacture of accordions and other musical
instruments. Six men are now kept busy and the
prospects for the company are very bright. A very
satisfactory number of accordion orders have been
received.
The company was incorporated this spring. That
the stockholders have faith in their new enterprise is
evidenced by the fact that new stock is being sold
right along, and many of the old stockholders are
increasing their amounts. The factory building oc-
cupied has been remodeled and arranged into a prac-
tical workshop for the company.
At the present time the six employes are busy
making parts for the accordions. The manufacture
of these instruments requires that much of the work
be done by hand. Because of the extreme fineness
of some of the work, much time is necessary in the

making of these parts and the most exact workman-
ship is essential. The factory work is under the su-
pervision of Chris Zuercher, who came to Berne last
spring from Switzerland. Mr. Zuercher recently
stated that this is the fourth accordion factory which
he has helped to start.
Much new machinery has been bought by the com-
pany and most of this has been installed. Practically
all of the raw material used in this work must be
imported from Switzerland and Germany. Large
consignments of raw material have been received
from foreign countries and are now being utilized.
COLUMBIA JULY ROLLS.
Orders for the July rolls of the Columbia Music
Roll Co., 22 S. Peoria street, Chicago, arc exceeding
all anticipations of the company. The mailing of the
advance bulletins in the last weeks of June got its re-
sponse in an avalanche of orders which justified the
company's claim for the Columbia roll. line. "Colum-
bia Word Rolls will please your trade and double
your sales," is a slogan of the company which seem-
ingly is verified by the sales returns on the new Aug-
ust numbers. A trial order is suggested to dealers
who are told that "Quality and price make Columbia
rolls the dealer's best profit producer in a roll de-
partment."
LEADS WITH SPECIALTY.

ties of the firm are brass mutes for cornets, trom-
bones and French horns and drum majors' batons in

earned fame- as the maker of Bestone Banjo
Resonators.
DUTY ON RECORD ENVELOPES.
Paper containers for phonograph records are du-
tiable at the rate of 15 per cent ad valorem as flat
paper envelopes, instead of 25 per cent ad valorem as
manufactures of paper as at first construed. The
former rate was fixed by a recent decision rendered
by the United States Court of Customs Appeals.
