Newspapers Express Pride in Performance of This
Clever Native of Hub.
Cccile deHorvath, who records her playing ex-
clusively for the De Luxe Welte-Mignon (Licensee)
Library of Reproducing Records, scored a decided
success in her recent concert appearance on Decem-
ber 16. The Christian Science Monitor said that she
was "among the most interesting pianists heard here
this season." The Boston Evening Transcript com-
mented proudly about this native of Boston:
"She overwhelmed her listeners. She gave Chopin's
'passage-work' the songful quality that much more
eminent pianists often miss; she caught the fluid
lightness of Schubert's Dances from Rosamund, and
the charm, the fancy, even the poise (when Liszt was
not pushing it about) of Mendelssohn's music to 'A
Midsummer Night's Dream.' Moreover, in Scriabin's
Sonata-Fantasy and Chopin's B minor sonata, there
was no matching Mme. DeHorvath as a pianist of
intelligence and sensibility, quick to the piano as an
instrument of song as well as an instrument of per-
cussion."
Philip Hale devoted three-quarters of a column to
her art in which he regarded her talents as of out-
standing prominence. He'also said:
"She played y the charming Schubert-Ganz music
with sympathy and understanding, as she did Sgam-
bati's artistic arrangements of ' Gluck's air. In
Scriabin's Sonata-Fantasy her phrasing was musi-
cally intelligent, her rhythm decisive. In lyric pas-
sages she displayed an agreeable touch and the abil-
ity to sing melodic lines. Her mechanism was wholly
adequate."
The Globe said: "Mme deHorvath played the B
minor sonata with much spontaneous energy in the
finale and considerable lyric beauty in the large. A
set of Viennese waltzes by her husband proved to be
that rarest of rare things, really good, harmonious,
light music." Olin Downes, in the Post, spoke of
her "broad and dramatic style, her feeling for tonal
beauty, sincerity and musical feeling."
An excellent list of selections played by Mme.
deHorvath were released in the March Bulletin of
DeLuxe Welte-Mignon (Lisensee) records. Further
recordings will be released in future bulletins of this
extensive library.

SUCCESS

THE BALDWIN
CO-OPERATION
PLAN
which offers every opportunity to represent
under the most favorable conditions a com'
plete l«ne of high grade pianos, players and
reproducers.
Contracts should be made in writing. While oral
contracts are in some cases legal and binding, in
matters of business the only secure way is to put the
agreements into written words, and make them clear.
However, if a sales contract is not in writing, and
partial payments have been made and accepted, the
courts generally agree that the transaction will
hold and be enforced. There must be two or more
parties to an agreement, and the obligations must be
mutual. Failure to fulfill a contract may be excused
if the failure is due to misfortune, such as fire, sick-
ness or any other "act of providence."
