A piano manufacturer, in selecting the materials
and parts from which he will make his finished prod-
uct, has in mind the realization that a piano is no
stronger than its weakest part, nor no better than its
poorest part. It is for this reason that he takes care
that strings should be of the best quality obtainable.
This accounts for the demand for strings from the
Schaff Piano String Co., Chicago, which is increasing
in business by leaps and bounds. The Schaff Piano
String Co. specializes in bass strings, and is turning
out a serviceable, high-class product.
The manufacture of a specialty creates a corps of
specialists in any plant. The Schaff Piano String Co.
is an interesting instance. Most of the men who
make the strings in the factory at 2009-2021 Lewis
street learned their craft there. They inbibed the
spirit of the place—pride in the product, love of per-
