Pallophotophone Is Demonstrated at an Engineers'
Meeting in New York City.
The pallophotophone, which records the human
voice, music and other sounds by photography, was
demonstrated last week by Charles A. Hoxie of the
General Electric Company at the meeting of the
American Institute of Electrical Engineers at the En-
gineering Societies Building at 29 West Thirty-ninth
street, New York.
A violin was played and then the light-record of
the violin piece was reproduced on the pallophoto-
phone, showing with what distinctness the invention
was capable of reproducing the sounds of high pitch
which are blurred on most reproducing devices.
FIRE IN BOSTON STORE.
About a dozen young women demonstrators and
office attaches fled to the street alarmed last week
when a threatening fire was discovered in the five-
story brick building at 35 and 37 Arch street, Boston,
occupied by M. Steinert & Sons Company's talking
machine branch. Several of the young women in the
office on the third floor, however, were calm enough
to gather up all the books and place them in the safe
before they left the building. Firemen placed the
damage at'$5,000.
