PRESTO
Conway Band for the past fifteen years. His stand-
ing as a clarinetist is second to none and his addition
to the Conway faculty is a valuable one. Pedro Lo-
zano, the trombone virtuoso, formerly with the Na-
tional Band of Mexico, has been soloist with the Con-
way Band for the past six years. Mr. Lozano is a
highly skilled musician and a valuable asset to the
conservatory.
Other enthusiastic Conn instrument users on the
faculty of the Ithaca Conservatory of Music are:
Ernest Pechin, the world-famed cornet virtuoso, has
been soloist of the Innes and Conway bands and
formerly assistant soloist with the Sousa Band.
Joseph LaMonaca, the flutist of the Philadelphia Sym-
phony Orchestra, has also been soloist with the Con-
way Band and will have charge of the flute and
piccolo students. Mr. Monaca ranks among the
highest as an artist. Clarence Page will assist in the
direction of the reed instrument department with
an array of talent.
H. Benne Henton has been soloist with Sousa and
soloist and assistant director of Conway's Band for
a number of years. His phonograph records with the
Victor have also added to his fame. His connection
with the Conn factory as saxophone expert where he
succeeded the great LeFebre, has also given him
prominence and he is recognized as one of the great-
est living saxophone virtuoso's. Frank R. Seizer, the
well known cornetist, arranger and composer, has
been with the Conway Band as assistant soloist and
arranger for a number of years. Mr. Seizer will
have charge of the orchestration and arranging de-
partment of the school and students in this depart-
ment will be fortunate in their association with Mr.
Seizer.
Practical training in ensemble playing will be one
of the outstanding features of the school and stu-
dents can appreciate the value of this feature where
they will be able to perform with and under the
tutorship of these high-class artists and particularly
under the guidance of the director, Patrick Conway.

LONE BANJO SAVED.
The banjo owned by W. E. King, of the orchestra
of the City of Honolulu, recently burned in mid-
ocean, was the only musical instrument saved from
the doomed vessel. When passengers and crew were
rescued from the boats by the U. S. Transport
Thomas, King and Charles Caldwell, pianist, who
was leader of the City of Honolulu's orchestra, bor-
rowed the transport's piano and the two put on an
impromptu jazz concert.
