W. H. BOWLES ATTENDS
OHIO STATE CONVENTION
Autopiano Traveler Begins Three Months' Trip
Through Middle West and Far South.
William H. Bowles, representative of the Auto-
piano Company, New York, started last week on a
business trip which will extend three months and
take him through the territory lying in the Middle
West and Southern States. His itinerary is most
complete and during his trip he will practically have
personal contact with every Autopiano dealer in the
territory.
The trip is made principally to determine the
dealers' requirements for the holiday trade and to
close up matters which have necessarily been pend-
ing over the summer months.
Mr. Bowles inaugurated his trip by attending the
convention of Ohio dealers held this week i t
Youngstown, Ohio. He is well known to Ohio
dealers and has attended their state conventions for
many years back. He took the opportunity to greet
in this way most of the dealers who represent the
Autopiano in the Ohio State. The itinerary of this
trip of Mr. Bowles is planned so as to return him
to New York around Thanksgiving.
PUTS IT FRANKLY.
Do we Americans lack tact? In our trade rela-
tions with races that we deem our inferiors, we cer-
tainly do; and it is hurting us commercially. It
may not be possible to kill the feeling of superiority,
but at least we need not rub it in, says John H.
Whitaker, writing on this subject in Pan-Pacific
(San Francisco). Of two stores in your town,
which would you deal with—one where the proprie-
tor regarded you as his inferior and reminded yon
of the fact with every word, or one where there was
kindliness and friendly sympathy—a dealing as of
man with man? The answer is obvious. We are
too brutally frank to succeed in trade with oriental
races, Mr. Whitaker thinks. But we have never
been slow to learn and to adopt new methods, es-
pecially where they are to our advantage.
