Other Subjects of Direct Interest to the Trade and Musical Public

to be of general trade interest will be published. If an
answer is not of general interest it will be mailed pro-
vided stamp is inclosed.
THE CHOPIN COMPANY.
St. Louis, Mo., April 26, 1920.
Editor Presto: Replying to your recent letter, will
state that this company has been under new man-
agement since March 15th.
We are the sole distributors for the Chopin in-
struments shown in the enclosed catalog, and our
factory is located at Quincy, 111.
Yours very truly,
THE CHOPIN CO.
By S. R. SECOR.
[The catalog is a folder showing cuts of phono-
graphs—no pianos. The phonographs are made by
an industry at Quincy, 111.—Ed. Presto.]

BACON PIANO COMPLIMENTED.
Morgantown, Ky., April 20, 1920.
Editor Presto: With regard to the article in your
paper, I think you misunderstood me in some way
when I said the Bacon Piano Co. was so busy mak-
ing pianos. That was meant as a compliment. I
know there is a great demand for their pianos; that
was why I said that, and I think the Bacon company
is one of the finest in the land.
I wrote to you because I knew you could give in-
formation about most anything pertaining to pianos.
Yours respectfully,
MAUDE EBERMAN.

REED ORGAN INDUSTRIES.
Boston, April 14, 1920.
Editor Presto: The writer, who has been a reader
of your publication for years, notes lhat you are re-
ceiving a number of inquiries regarding manufac-
turers of reed organs.. This is not to be wondered
at as, of course, the number of manufacturers is
very small at the present time. I notice, however,
that you are giving the addresses of a number of
firms that are no longer in business. I think that
you will find that the following list is complete and
accurate, and the full list of organ makers at the
present time:
Adler Manufacturing Co., Louisville, Ky. (mail
order proposition); Estey Organ Co., Brattleboro,
Vt.; R. S. Hill, Highland Park Station, Louisville,
Ky.(?); Hinners Organ Company, Pekin, 111.; Mil-
ler Organ & Piano Company, Lebanon, Pa.; Ship-
man Organ Company, High Point, N. C ;
S. N. Swan & Sons, Freeport, 111.; A. L. White
Manufacturing Company, Chicago, 111.; Bilhorn
Bros., Chicago, 111. (Folding organs only.); Homo
Faber, Chicago, 111. (Folding organs only.)
In one of the trade papers recently I noticed that
the Hill Company, at Louisville, were reported out
of business, but we do not believe that report is cor-
rect.
I am not positive whether the Foley & Williams
Piano Company, of Chicago, are making reed or-
gans, or not.
I am told that the Williams Piano & Organ Com-
pany do not intend to manufacture when their pres-
ent stock is exhausted.
I am giving you this pointer, because I note the
trade look to you for information, and of course it
only means delay to write to firms who are no
longer making. No charge for this information and
you can use k for what it is worth.
Yours very truly,
A MANUFACTURER.
THE "BONATONE" PLAYER.
Hendersonville, N. C, April 26, 1920.
Editor Presto: I have a playerpiano on hand
(second hand) that I want repaired. It bears the
name of "Bonatone, Cabinet Grand, New York."
Can you advise me who makes this piano, also the
player? This information will be greatly appre-
ciated by
Yours very truly,
CHAS. ROZZELLE.
We have no knowledge of any such instrument as
being the product of any New York industry. In
all probability the "Bonatone" belongs to the so-called
"stencil' family. It is, of course, impossible for us
to locate the origin of an instrument of that kind.
If you can tell us more about the playerpiano, giving
us the number, which probably appears on the pin
block, and also the name of the dealer from whom
the instrument was originally purchased, we might
be able to give you some information.
It is, however, possible that the repairs which you
require may be secured of any industry that makes
a specialty of that kind of work.

HAVE NO CONNECTION.
St. Johns, Mich., April 23, 1920.
Editor Presto: .Do the Gulbransen and H. C.
Bay Piano companies have any connection in re-
gard to piano building?
Very truly yours,
E. M. SMITH.
The two industries you name have no connection
whatsoever. The Gulbransen-Dickinson Co. occu-
pies an extensive plant at Kedz:e, Sawyer & Chicago
avenues, Chicago. The H. C. Bay Co. factory is
located at Bluffton, Ind., while the business head-
quarters are in the Republic Building, Chicago.

ABO'UT PRESTO PREMIUMS.
Akron, Ohio, April 12, 1920.
Editor Presto: In my last Presto the editor tells
of things furnished subscribers intended to benefit
them and induce their support. Among them were
plans to secure sales. I should like to know about
the formulas alluded to.
I should also like to know of manufacturers of
piano benches and stools. Tonk is the only one ad-
vertised in Presto.
Yours truly,
H. L. LOBDELL.
Inasmuch as you arc a regular subscriber to this
paper, we will see that the letters designed to assist
in finding prospects are forwarded to you. It is the
purpose of this paper to render practical assistance
to members of the trade and we frequently have
plans similar to the ones which were described in a
recent issue.
About piano bench and stool manufacturers; we
suggest that all of the following are reliable:
Bush & Lane Piano Co., Holland, Mich.; John
Gerts, Weed & Dayton streets, Chicago; Henry
Holtzman & Son, Columbus, Ohio: S. E. Gverton &
Co., South Haven, Mich.; Standard Piano Bench Co..
1225 W. Lake street, Chicago; Tonk Mfg. Co., 1912
Lewis street, Chicago; Merriam Co., South Acton,
Massachusetts.

REUTER-SCHWARTZ ORGANS.
Winterset, Iowa, April 22, 1920.
Editor Presto: Kindly let me have some informa-
tion on the "Ruter-Swartz" reed and pipe organs,
made, I believe, in .Minnesota.
Yours respectfully,
KRABIEL DRUG CO.
There is a Reuter-Schwartz Organ Co. at Trenton,
111., which is manufacturing pipe organs. We have
no knowledge of the concern ever having produced
reed instruments.
You are mistaken about the concern being located
in Minnesota, and it is our understanding that the
Reuter-Schwartz industry is a small one.

PIANO MEN AS PUBLISHERS.
Newton, Kans., April 26, 1920.
Editor Presto: I am sending you a copy of my
first song, actually published, and I'm going to
put out 11 more as fast as I can. I could keep a
song publishing house busy all year round.
Why can't the piano merchants raise a fund of
about $1,000 and be "music publishers," instead of
being obliged to keep selling the miscellaneous stuff
that keeps coming on the market? A reply would
be appreciated by
Yours sincerely,
H. S. DICKEY.
The suggestion about piano merchants becoming
also music publishers is one in which there is a
basis of considerable thought. But, seriously, you
know, a great many piano merchants have also tried
