The customer places an "o ut -of-
ord er" sign on me and phones to tell
my owner that there is no life in me at

Augu st 10 . 1975
M y owner has finally arrived and
ha me open again . H e's filing most
o f my points, pushing , pulling, and
prodding in desperation, hoping he
will di cover the error of the
manufacturer. It would appear to me
that he doesn 't know how to rectify
the problem by simply moving the
wire on the transform er to the next
higher tap . For a minute I believed
that he wa s going to find the solution
as he remov ed the schematic. but , to
my dismay. he put it on the floor to
use as a kneeling pad . H e is lowering
my back legs , redu cing the angle of
my playfield .
I am now being played again , but
I'll never be the same machine that
my manufacturer had such great
hopes for.
January 17 , 1977
I am still in the same location . Not
much has changed except that when
I do periodically see my owner I hear
him telling the customer that I am a
" dud " and that he plans to retire me
from service . He also comments on
the amount I have cost him in service
calls and downtime .
F bruary 12. 1977
Today I am
n rout
to an
unknown destination. Upon arrival, I
ee that I am being plac d in my
owner's ervice depot .
April 3. 1977
Approximately six weeks have
passed and I have been sitting here
collecting even more dust. In the
interim. I have noticed that my
owner must attend to severa l on -
location ervice calls each day . It's no
wonder that he has not gotten
around to m in this time .
Today one of the servicemen
decides to play me and realizes that
my tilt n eds to be set. H e also
decides to clean my playfield . H e
pots the malfunction o f my switches
and attempts to get them to work
properly . Thus , I am 90 percent
effectively serviced .
The serviceman is in full agree -
ment with my owner that it is
impossible to cure the manufacturer's
ba ic defect. They do , however ,
decid to give me one last chance on
th e road . I am not optimistic about
th e outcome of this reprieve because
I still have not been cleaned to the
manufacturer's specification s.
Ma y 20 , 1977
I am back on location , feeling
wary . I know my pOints are
b ginning to burn becaus of exces-
siv rlirt. M y days ar numbered .
M ay 24 . 1977
Th customer again phones my
wner complaining th at numerous
things hav gon wrong with me ,
and th at hi cu tomer ar di atisfied
with m .
May 25 . 1977
Once again I am en rout back to
th s rvic d pot. I know that my
car er a part of my own r' s wheel o f
fortun ha com to an elld . Wh at
doe the future hold for me now? At
be t , I could b
old to an operator
who will id ntify th sourc of my
problems and find the solution .
To date, I have be n played by
two potential buyers for home
entertainment , but they have both
been turned away by my poor
performance .
A woeful tal it is , but true . It is not
my intention to dismay or discourage
you. but to give you insight into my
shortcomings from my point of view .
Pity my owner for his loss of
r venue through downtime , service
ca lls, and th e untimely and needless
r tiremen t from service of a poten -
tially gr at earner. It may be said
that, in his att empts to " pass the
buck," h lost several. This is my
soliloquy .
