Knabe Piano Used at Unveiling
of Statue of Donald Cowan Jackling
Owners Manual Attached
To All Wurlitzer Pianos
A novel booklet has been prepared by
Joe Daurer, Sales Promotion Manager
of the DeKalb Division of the Rudolph
Wurlitzer Co., entitled "Owners Manu-
al" which is attached to every piano.
On the inside of the front cover is
a place for the owner's name, address,
city, state, the model number of the pi-
ano and the serial number, the finish,
the date purchased and a place to put
down the dealer's name. On the oppos-
ite page is a letter from Farny Wur-
litzer, giving a brief history of the
Wurlitzer Co. which was established in
1856. Two pages are devoted to the
Wurlitzer organization and plant in
DeKalb, 111. There is also a page on
design, another on scale and then there
are several exclusive features of the pi-
ano publicized.
Then comes "Helpful Hints for Prop-
er Care of the New Piano."
KNABE PIANO WAS USED AT UNVEILING CEREMONY OF JACKLING STATUE.
On August 14th last, Donald Cowan
Jackling was signally honored by the
unveiling of a statute of him presented
to the state of Utah by the National
Society for the Sons of Utah Pioneers,
with the cooperation of the Utah Cop-
per Division of Kennecott Copper Cor-
poration.
The unveiling took place in Salt Lake
City and there was an elaborate pro-
gram at which the Brigham Young
University A Capella Choir opened the
festivities by singing "America, the
Beautiful". The unveiling of the statue
was done by Eagle Scouts and its ac-
ceptance was by the Hon. J. Bracken
Lee, Governor of the State of Utah.
The choir then sang "Send Forth Thy
Spirit" and also "My own America"
and there was a solo rendition at the
termination of the program of "Danny
Boy" with lyrics written by Mrs. John
Charles Thomas in honor of Mr. Jack-
ling, and the solo being sung by her
husband, John Charles Thomas.
All through these ceremonies, accom-
paniment for the singing was played on
a Knabe 5-foot, 8-inch grand piano
which was furnished by the Summer-
heys Music Co. of Salt Lake City.
Daniel Cowan Jackling was world-
renowned mining and metallurgical en-
gineer, who applied and developed
processes for the beneficiation of low-
grade porphyritic ores and originated
copper mining methods that finally de-
veloped into a tremendous business asset
for the State of Utah, and the occasion
was the 50th anniversary of the Utah
Copper Division of the Kennecott Cop-
per Corporation.
