of the Sam Fox Sound Synchronization depart-

SAN FRANCISCO, CAL., February 8.—Shortly be-
Corp. to do the original music score for "The
Betrayal," a forthcoming Paramount produc- fore the holidays, Ed Little, manager of the
tion in which Emil Jannings is featured. This sheet music and publishing activities of Sher-
new Jannings picture has an Alpine setting and
the famous star portrays the role of a lovable
Swiss mayor who is betrayed by his wife and
his best friend. Mr. Zamecnik said recently
that the setting and unusually fine dramatic
sequences of the story would lend themselves
readily to the production of a dramatic and
emotional music score. The composer is re-
sponsible for the original music scores of
"Wings," "Wedding March," "Abie's Irish Rose"
and "Redskin."

Billy Dooley, Movie Star, Looks Over a New
Sherman, Clay Number
man, Clay & Co., made a business trip to Holly-
wood and stated on his return that he had
placed an important new theme song, the name
of which could not then be revealed. In an
interview this week with The Review, Mr.
Little revealed the fact the new number is
"Dooky-Dooley-Do," which will serve as a
theme song for a whole series of two-reel,
Paramount-Christie comedies, starring Billy
Dooley, well-known film comedian.
This is a slightly different angle on a theme
song from the usual practice of linking up a
number with a single picture. In the case of
"Dooley-Dooley-Do," this song will be kept
active by pictures to be released for one whole
year with showings for probably an additional
year. Adequate facilities for enabling the trade
to cash in on this song, which will enjoy a
permanent two-year plug, are at present being
worked out by Mr. Little and his department.

The latest addition to the catalog of Sher-
man, Clay & Co., San Francisco, is entitled
"The Wedding of the Painted Doll." This
number is featured in the new Metro-Goldwyn-
Mayer photoplay production, "The Broadway
Melody," which opened recently at the Astor
Theatre in New York, starring Anita Page,
Bessie Love and Charles King. "The Wedding
of the Painted Doll" was composed by iNacio
Herb Brown, writer of "Doll Dance" and other
big successes.
The metropolitan critics were practically
unanimous in proclaiming the new film a big
success, and many of the reviewers devoted
considerable space to the Sherman, Clay song.
The New York Sun said in part: "A number
called 'The Wedding of the Painted Doll,' in
which a full chorus and any number of princi-
pals sang and danced, was almost worth the
rest of the evening put together." The New
York American had the following to say: "'The
Wedding of the Painted Doll' gives every in-
dication of reaching the musical heights at-
tained by 'The Parade of the Wooden Sol-
diers.' "

Two Art Gillham Recordings
Art Gillham, known to the radio world as the
"Whispering Pianist," recently recorded two
new Joe Davis songs entitled "You Can't Take
My Mem'ries From Me" and "The Lamp of
Aladdin" on Columbia records. Both numbers
are selling well in sheet music form and are
near the top of the Triangle Music Publishing
Co.'s catalog, which also lists several other
popular song releases.
