Wendling, well-known hit writers, have pro-
duced in "Starlight and Tulips" a melody
classis which lent itself readily to Jesse Craw-
ford's master hands. He first introduced it in
ballad style, then in waltz clog rhythm, fol-
lowed by his playing of the melody in an
Oriental manner, and then as a resounding
Sousa conception. The lyrics were then thrown
on the screen as Mr. Crawford returned to the
melody of "Starlight and Tulips" in its simpli-
fied form.
Near the close of the presentation a further
dramatic touch was added by the lighting effects
arranged for the occasion. The house grew dim
preceding the closing chorus and, as the organ-
ist entered into the final strains of the melody,
colored lights were thrown on the organ and
twinkling stars were also visible. When the
lighting effects reached their height, a massed
bed of "starlights and tulips" was seen. This
animated version of the song brought forth
applause, calling for repeated acknowledgment
on the part of the organist. It was one of the
most applauded numbers upon the program.
