CHICAGO, III., June 23.—rThe famous musical
comedy star, Leon Errol, is playing a different
role as shown by this delightful pose before a
set of Ludwig drums. The picture was taken

PORTLAND, ORE., June 20.—At the Seiberling,
Lucas Music Store, at 151 Fourth street, the
first floor of the establishment is being re-
modeled to care for the stock of the small
goods department, owing to the bringing of the
stock recently purchased from the Conn-Port-
land store. The store at 211 Broadway has
been closed and the goods moved to the Fourth
street store. The department will now handle
the Conn band instruments exclusively. The
sheet music department is now in charge of
Maud Luzzadder, Mrs. Maybelle Elliott resign-
ing to accept the position as assistant to A. W.
Hulten, manager of the sheet music department
of Sherman, Clay & Co. In the record depart-
ment, those in charge say that there is a great
demand for records at this time, due no doubt
to the vacationers stocking up for their port-
ables. George Marsh has been employed as
territory salesman and is now in the field, look-
ing after the interests of the wholesale depart-
ment.

Other stars that have taken to Ludwig drums
include the famous Ben Turpin of the movies,
"Fatty" Arbuckle also, at one time, took a
keen delight in the drums, and once owned the
most expensive set of gold drums ever made
by Ludwig & Ludwig.
The late Vernon Castle, the dancer, enjoyed
sitting down at the drums and substituting for
the regular drummer in his shows. Drummers
state that Vernon Castle was one of the few
amateurs that was in the good graces of other
members of the orchestra when he played
drums. He had perfect rhythm and did not
"upset" the orchestra.
William S. Hart paid $750 for a solid silver
and gold decorated snare drum of the Ludwig
make about three years ago for his son.
The Duncan sisters always carry their own
drummer and feature the percussionist in their
productions.
George M. Cohan once beat the bass drum
in the early days of the Cohan Family act in
vaudeville. Cohan still is very finicky about his
drum effects in his musical shows.
Victor Herbert, the composer, wrote what
drummers term "perfect drum parts." Sousa,
too, writes excellent drum scores for his band
arrangements. Sousa was taught the art by
his drummer sergeants of the Marine Corps.

Only Instruments Made in Selmer Elkhart
Plant Are Silver Boehm Flutes and Piccolos
BLKHART, IND., June 27.—"Since Selmer, Inc.,
moved to Elkhart last, there seems to have been
an idea prevalent among some dealers and
musicians that Selmer instruments are being
made in Elkhart," remarked Geo. M. Bundy,
president of Selmer, Inc., today. "Of course,
it is obvious to anyone familiar with the law
that American made instruments could not be
marked French made, or vice versa. The only
instruments made in the Selmer plant at Elk-
hart are Silver Boehm flutes and piccolos. Each
and every article sold by our firm and marked
H. Selmer (Paris) is made in its entirety at
the Selmer French factory in Paris. In the
Selmer Building here are located the general
offices, sales department, stock and shipping
rooms and also service department for repair-
ing, overhauling, etc. We have one of the most
complete and well equipped establishments to
be found anywhere for the selling and servicing
of reed instruments, but wish to reiterate that
all instruments marked H. Selmer are guaran-
teed to be made in France."
F. W. Miller a Benedict
F. W. Miller, advertising manager of Ludwig
& Ludwig, is spending a combined vacation
trip and honeymoon at Lake Lizzie, Pelican
Rapids, Minn., following his recent marriage
to Miss Elizabeth Berneth, of Chicago. The
ceremony was held Saturday, June 16.
