The trend of the musical merchandise trade
has been accurately reflected in a special supple-
mentary catalog, No. 140, just issued by the
firm of Buegeleisen & Jacobson, wholesalers
of musical merchandise, 5-7-9 Union Square,
New York. That this document has a special
interest for music dealers at this time may be
understood from the editorial note on the first
page reading as follows:
"In compiling this supplementary catalog,
No. 140, special effort and attention have been
directed to selecting numbers in every branch
of musical merchandise which have proven
themselves to be the best sellers throughout the
country for the past year.
"The thought that prompted the special selec-
tions contained in this catalog was the desire to
be of aid to the dealer in selecting his stock for
Fall and Winter, out of a summary of numbers
from which he could choose, knowing that they
were right, both in selling attractiveness and
price. Many items have been reduced in price
and represent a genuine saving of from 15 per
cent to 25 per cent. New items have been added
from both America and Europe, reflecting the
latest-changes and trend in musical merchandise
throughout the world.

of the country are passing up sales that could
easily be made with very little effort.
The Sonophone Co. is creating a big demand
for these imitation band instruments as a re-
sult of its advertising. Schools and organiza-
tions are buying them in groups, which means
large sales, but in hundreds of cases the buy-
ers find that they have to go direct to the
Sonophone Co. for the instruments because the
local dealer does not carry them in stock.
If so many sales can be made direct by the
company to the consumer, Mrs. Carlisle rea-
sons that a great many more would come if the
dealer had the merchandise on display with
resultant profit to the dealer, and most dealers
will appreciate the correctness of this state-
ment. All that is necessary is to carry a com-
plete line of instruments in order to have the
Song-O-Phone agency.
"There are thousands of persons both old
and young who can easily be prevailed upon to
purchase such a novel instrument as the Song-
O-Phone," declared Mrs. Carlisle in an inter-
view with The Review this week. "All it takes
is the proper display and a reasonable demon-
stration.

strument dealer is that he will not give the
proper display to the Song-O-Phone. It is for
this reason that some dealers do not sell large
numbers of these instruments.
"Song-O-Phones are sold by the thousands
each year by progressive dealers in all sections
of the country. Repeat orders are received from
these merchants.
"We are consistently advertising and cir-
cularizing direct to the consumer. In every
instance we urge the prospective purchaser to
visit the nearest music store. Yes, we are con-
stantly building sales and creating new buy-
ers for the dealers in America, yet there are
only a small number of musical instrument re-
tail merchants who are co-operating and lend-
ing a helping hand.
"Some of these dealers buy from their jobber
or manufacturer only when a customer calls
and asks for a specific article. If the dealer
should happen to have the instrument or ac-
cessory desired by the customer on hand, then
a sale is immediately made. Let the dealer be
out of stock of the article asked for by the
customer, will the latter wait until the dealer
orders and receives the goods needed? No.
What is the result? A sale lost. The pro-
gressive dealer who carries an ample supply of
musical instruments and accessories will al-
ways do business, make larger profits and build
future sales with greater prestige than the
house that always is out of sufficient stock."
Chicago Musicians Dance
CHICAGO, I I I . , November 8.—The Chicago Fed-
eration of Musicians held its annual dance and
party at the Coliseum Monday, November 1,
with the largest attendance it has ever had.
In addition to members of the professional
trade and the dealers, there were over twenty
leading recording orchestras of the city to fur-
nish music for the dancers, including those of
Paul Ash, Ted Lewis, Oriole Orchestra, Bennie
Krueger, Art Kahn and many others.
