RICHARD A. WHITING
Mons. Dario, the internationally famous
dancer, now featured at the Beaux Arts, New
York, nightly, is introducing in America for the
first time the new Parisian dance called "The
Gigolo"—pronounced "jeeg-o-lo."
The "Gigolo," which threatens to succeed the
Charleston, is the French word for a dancing
man and one who rents out his dancing services
as partner to wealthy women. Dario and his
fair dancing mates, "Nadine" and "Irene," demon-
strate the steps of the "Gigolo" nightly at the
Beaux Arts Cafe. The dance is a simple one
and can be learned by any dancer of any
ability.
M. Witmark & Sons, New York, have ac-
quired the exclusive publishing rights of the
music, which is also called "Gigolo," and they
are issuing it in song and fox-trot form with
an American lyric by Marian Gillespie, writer
of "When You Look in the Heart of a Rose,"

the hit of "The Better 'Ole." The lyric of
"Gigolo" is as witty and clever as the music
is catchy and lilting and the new dance prom-
ises to be the sensation of the season for
singers, dance orchestras and dancers.

Enoch Ballads in Demand
Enoch & Sons, the well-known English .and
American standard publishing house, have many
ballads which this season, according to trade
reports, are having particularly heavy demands.
No doubt these sales have been created by the
large number of artists who have been nightly
programming these Enoch publications. The
numbers include "Down at the End of the Gar-
den," by May H. Brahe, composer of "I Passed
by Your Window." There is also "Keep One
Hour to Remember Me," by J. Will Callahan
and Frank H. Grey. "Sheepfold Song," by Lan-
don Ronald, and "Crying Water" and "Beside
Still Waters," by Bernard Hamblen.
PORTLAND, ORE., October 3.—Jacob Henry Ellis,
Pacific Coast representative of Sam Fox,
who was recently married, spent several days
of his honeymoon in Portland, and while here
was entertained by Louis Mack, sheet music
dealer, who has his department in the Wiley
R. Allen store.

Mrs. Jesse Crawford
ten by Mrs. Jesse Crawford, wife of the famous
organist, Jesse Crawford, and a recognized or-
ganist in her own right. Mr. Crawford is
introducing the new song this week at the
Chicago Theatre and the demand for it has
been instantaneous.
This is Mrs. Crawford's first published song,
she being responsible for both words and music.
If the furor this number has created, both in
musical circles and among the trade, is any
indication of her ability to turn out further
songs of the caliber of "Within the Prison of
My Dreams," the trade may look forward to
many successes from her pen.

The most recent addition to UJie Edward R.
Marks series of instruction books is "Miller's
Modern Method for Clarinet." This is com-
piled and arranged by Roy M. Miller, formerly
with Sousa's Band, and recognized as one of
the very greatest exponents of the clarinet.
One of the most unique and valuable features
of this book is a set of drawings made from
actual X-ray pictures showing the correct
movement of the tongue in tonguing. It ex-
plains thoroughly the primary steps in learning
to play the clarinet and the technique for more
advanced students, as well as the care of the
instruments.
