The Performing Right Society of Great Brit-
ain, through Mr. Woodhouse, the controller of
the society, who has just returned from South
Africa, reports that gradually the rights of Brit-
ish composers of music are being protected all
over the world. Mr. Woodhouse concluded con-
tracts in South Africa for the use of the so-
ciety's repertoire at all the principal theatres,
music halls and photoplay houses in the Union
of South Africa. Also, with the Cape Peninsu-
lar Publicity Association, which controls the
Cape Town Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Wood-
house will shortly visit Canada to arrange a
program for the exploitation of the society
rights in that country and with a view to the
establishment of a Canadian performing right
society. He will also visit and confer with the
officials of the American Society of Composers,
Authors & Publishers to arrange closer co-op-
eration between the two societies in the mutual
interest of its respective members.
