THE MUSIC TRADE REVIEW
Publishers' Men in Portland
"Mother O' My Mother," lyric by Francesca
Falk Miller, music by Ernest R. Ball; "The
Story of the Rosary," with lyric by Maxwell
Freed and music by Harry D. Squires; "There's
Just a Bit of Heaven in Your Smile," lyric by
Benton Ley, music by Lee David, and "Give
Me One Rose to Remember," lyric by J. Will
Callahan and music by Frank H. Grey.
PORTLAND, Owe, July 1.—The sheet music depart-
ments of the city were visited during the past
week by several representatives of Eastern pub-
lishers. Among them were Emil Pflock, of the
Boston Music Co.; David C. Smith, of the Clay-
ton F. Summy Music Co., of Chicago, and How-
ard R. Adae, of the Willis Music Co., of Cin-
cinnati, O. Among Mr. Pflock's offerings was
a new Chinese suite for the piano by Rudolph
Frinil.
Mr. Smith, of the Clayton Summy Co., found
a receptive field for some of his newer num-
bers, among them Alice Bently's "Elf and
Fairy," a set of six pieces; and "The Slumbering
Child."
The sheet music department of Sherman, Clay
& Co. was visited last week by Edward Little,
of the San Francisco headquarters, who spent
several days in Portland. Mr. Little was en
route home from the New York convention
and expressed himself as greatly pleased with
the showing made by the Portland branch in
the sheet music department. The installation
of a complete stock of classical music filled a
long-needed want in Portland, according to Mr.
Little.
Leo Feist, Inc., has inaugurated a Summer
campaign on six songs, all of which have been
included in a special offer. They are "May
Time," by Vincent Rose, writer of "Linger
Awhile"; "Doodle Doo-Doo," which had its
original success in Kansas City and Chicago;
"Where the Dreamy Wabash Flows," a fox-
trot; "Honest and Truly," a waltz ballad; "Why
Did You Do It?", a jazz type of novelty, and
"When Dreams Come True." Several songs
from the Feist catalog which proved so popular
in recent months and which are still active
sellers will continue to receive special atten-
tion. These include "When Lights Are Low,"
"Don't Mind the Rain," "Linger Awhile," "Don't
Blame It All on Me," "Mr. Radio Man" and
"Worried."

During the Democratic Convention in New
York City Ernie Golden and His Hotel Mc-
Alpin Orchestra, playing on the McAlpin Roof,
featured "Oh, My, Yes" (Us Girls Must Have
Our Fun). The orchestra joined in the chorus
of the number and the rendition proved one of
the outstanding attractions nightly. Phil Ponce

Feature Marks Numbers
Charles D. Isaacson, the well-known writer
on musical topics and who last season presented
short versions of grand opera in vaudeville, has
formed a musical combination for concert and
Chautauqua which will be booked under the
name "Arabian Nights Musical Entertainment."
Several songs from the catalog of the Edward
B. Marks Music Co. are included in the reper-
toire, "Cradle Song" (Wiegenlied), "Black
Magic," with lyrics by Isaacson and music by
A. Buzzi-Peccia, "Song of the Volga Boatman,"

Opens Portland Branch
PORTLAND, ORE., July 1.—I. E. Sklare, local man-
ager of the Remick Song and Gift Shop, has
opened a branch in the Meier & Frank depart-
ment store and Mrs. Lillian Newman has been
placed in charge. A big volume of sales on
"It Had to Be You," "There's Yes, Yes in Your
Eyes," "Mandalay," "Hula Hula Dream Girl,"
"Roses of Picardy," "Don't Blame It All on
Me"'and "What'll I Do?" are factors of success.
New Bobbed Hair Song
Nat Vincent, Blanche Franklin and Harry Von
Tilzer are the writers of a new comedy song en-
titled "Since Mother Bobbed Her Hair," issued with
ukulele arrangement by Louis Fleischer and
published by the Harry Von Tilzer Music Co.
The number is heard frequently in vaudeville
and its popularity has caused the writers to
issue some additional choruses and patter,
helped, of course, by its timeliness.
Harms "Follies" Numbers
Harms, Inc., publish two numbers in the latest
Ziegfeld's "Follies," "Lonely Little Melody" and
"Biminy." This show, featuring Will Rogers
and some other well-known "Follies" "figures,"
will evidently attain the usual length of a
"Follies" run.
