Century to Announce
Window Display Winners
List of Those Taking Part in Contest Far in
Excess of Original Expectations of the Com-
pany
The Century Music Publishing Co. will shortly
announce the four prize winners of its annual
window display contest. The winners are to
receive silver loving cups. While it is under-
stood the selection of the winning windows has
already been made, there is a likelihood of a
number of additional cups being presented and
a worthy mention made of other windows. The
list of competitive windows far exceeded the
original expectations of the Century Co. The
great number of artistically decorated, expen-
sively arranged and thoughtful and original
ideas and presentations are evidence of the
great strides being made by retailers in getting
the most sales value of our window space.
Aside from the cups which are to be pre-
sented by the Century Co. to the winners, this
publishing house is to be congratulated upon
the constructive value of the competitions. Any-
thing that will encourage better window displays
and create additional sales is more than worth
while.
The most beautiful
Charles K. Harris is having one of the busiest
seasons" iff fhe history of his publishing com-
pany. He is shortly to release a ukulele book
containing ten of the old but well-known Har-
ris' ballads, the music of which is arranged by
Louis Fleischer. In addition, Harris has just
released a song entitled "Girl Shy," dedicated
to and released and exploited in conjunction
with the Harold Lloyd film of the same name.
In this latter work Mr. Harris had as his col-
laborator Elizabeth Church Merrill. Another
new Harris ballad entitled "No One to Kiss
You Goodnight," issued with recitation, has also
been placed on the market.
A prominent book publishing house has con-
tracted with Charles K. Harris for a book en-
titled "Forty Years of Popular Music," which
will be a historical and biographical sketch on
popular songs, authors and composers and in-
teresting events during the past forty years.
In addition Charles K. Harris has written
in conjunction with Adeline Hendricks a play
entitled "The Scarlet Sister." All of this should
be enough work for the Summer season, but
does not include three photoplays written by
Charles K. Harris, which are to be produced in
the Fall and are "The Tie That Binds," "Silken
Shackles" and "Wanted—A Thrill." Harris also
took an active interest in the production and
release in the photoplay called "After the Ball,"
based upon the popular favorite of the same
name, making five personal appearances in the
metropolitan district at the openings of the
picture.
Early in the Fall Harris is to issue four new
ballads, "Without You," "Our Happy Wedding
Day," "Would You Tell?" and "There's a Tear
in Your Smile."
Garber in North Carolina
Jan Garber and His Garber-Davis Orchestra
is playing the Summer season at Henderson-
ville, N. C, in a dance pavillion owned by Jan
Garber. The orchestra also plays society en-
gagements at Asheville, N. C, which is close by.

On September 8 the Garber-Davis Orchestra
will play a two weeks' engagement at Euclid
Gardens, Cleveland, O., following which it will
open the Fall season for Roseland in New York
City. Owing to the fact that a new Broadway
dance emporium, known as Arcadia, is to be
opened at the same time, the Garber-Davis
Orchestra will be billed as a big attraction.
Arrangements for a big advertising campaign
prior to and during the Garber-Davis Orchestra
appearances have been planned.
"Trail O' My Heart"
"Trail O' My Heart" is the title of a new song
by Zo Elliott, writer of the famous "Long,
Long Trail." This, together with "Dream
House," by Florence Methven, writer of "In
the Heart of a Rose," are to receive wide ex-
ploitation in the concert field and better class
vaudeville houses.
Sings Chappell-Harms Songs
Elsie Baker, the noted contralto and Victor
Talking Machine Co. record artist, is program-
ming two songs from the Chappell-Harms, Inc.,
catalog, "In the Garden of To-morrow," words
by George Graffe, Jr., and music by Jessie L.
Deppen; "My Thoughts of You," by Dorothy
L. Rosamonde and Tilden Davis.
The Secretary of the State of New York has
granted a certificate of incorporation to the
Fdgar Dowell Music Publishing Co., of New
York City. The incorporators arc L. Dowell,
C. Williams and W. Webber.
