Ernest R. Ball's beautiful ballad, " Dear Little

Sons, is likely to experience a new and vigo rous
lease of life . This song, one of the hest-known
in the Witmark Black and White Series, was
originally written and published during the
war, and though not actually a war song it
came to be generally regard ed as such. "Dear
Little Boy of Mine " e njoyed a very large meas
ure of popularity and its sales were big. Now,
however, one of those unexpected but always
possible incidents in the music business is about
to occur th a t will bring th e so n g new publicity
and undoubtedly create a further d emand for
th e n umber. The First National is reLea sing a
feature picture, made by ]. K. McDonald,
starring Ben Alexander, filmed arol!nd a sto ry

DEALERS' EXECUTIVES IN MEETING
Discuss Various Trade Problems and Practices
at Special Meeting Held at Chamber of Com
merce Offices in New York Last Week
There was a meeting of th e Executive Com
mittee of the National Association of Sheet
Music Dealers, on Tuesday, November 27, held
in the offices of the Music Industries Chamber
of Commerce, 105 West Fortieth s treet, New
York City, to which th e officers and directors of
th e association were invited.
Although the tim e was short, a general re
vi ew of trade problems was discussed and some
very timely expressions of opinIOn were
re corded. Of particular and timely interest wa s
the attention given to the plans for furthering
th e sales of Christmas music books, folios,
songs, etc.
The question of extending to dealers on sale
privileges and long time credits on novelty
issues for teachers, schools, co nserva tories, etc.,
was viewed from numerous angles and an an
a ly sis of the problem was made from both th e
publisher's and dealer's viewpoint. Co-opera
tion of the publishers, in some instances a long
these lin es ha s already been give n the trade a nd,
undoubt edly, the entire indu st ry will work in
accord with the dealer. However, inasmuch as
the tenden.cy is to shorten the credit time, tht'
movement, in its present form, will hardly re
ceive unanimous support.
Among those who attended were S. Ernest
Philpitt, Charles VI. Hom eyer, William H.
L evis,]. :M . Priaulx an d M. E. Tompkins. In addi
tion a talk wa:; made by C. M. Tremaine, of the
National Bureau for th e Adva ncemen t of Music,

L. Dennis of the Better Business Bureau, who
has been quite ac tive in recent months in mak
ing an analysis of dealers' and publishers'
pro.blems, also made a repo·rt of his work.
