Proving Highly Popular in Both Fields

Don't Go Out Tonight," the successor of "Lov­
in' Sam" and " L oui sville Lou," recently added
to the catalo g of Ager, YelJen & Bornstein,
I nc., is being featured by a long list of vaude-

non gave one of the biggest entertainments
ever held by that society recently. The entire
proceeds went to the j\lIt. Vernon Home for
Convalescents.
The dance Jllusic wa, furnished by Paul
Specht's Yirginians and the Lee Kids put on
a very pleasing- bit of song and dance. Among
the notables of nroadway and the concert field
who also entertained were the Bennett Twins,
Leonard Braun, Merle Hartwell. David Tar­
lowski did a special Russian ballet, assisted by
Rosa Cohan. Miss Cohan did a ballet feature.
The entire program and entertainment was
under the auspices of Fred Fisher. He was
given a unanimous vote of appreciation by the
members of the club. Several thousand dollars
were raised through bis efforts in obtaining the
artists who appeared.
Occasionally there is issued a popular song
which, despite the wide publi.: response it re­
ceives, refuses to die the early death that comes
to the average popular number, that is to say, at
most carrying its popularity for a six or nine·
month period. Of course, this is not to com­
pare the semi-popular works which are avail­
able for concert stars. The number that proves
popular in concert programs in a sense 'has a
limited rendition and, therefore, runs little
chance of becoming- over-popular in a short
space of time,
A case of a song having wide popularity and
being rendered on both the concert and vaude­
ville stage is part of the history of the Jerome
H. Remick & Co. number "Beside a Babbling
Brook." Despite its frequent programming it
still remains in favor, and undoubtedly it will
achieve international prominence to the delight
and profit of both the writers and the publishers.

Featuring "Mamma Goes"
ville performers. Among these, however, none
gets more punch out of the lines or the song,
nor puts over the melody more successfuly than
yIammy Jinny. This artist has a peculiar ability
in rendering this type of numbers and the pub·
lishers are indeed to be congratulated in having
"Mamma Goes Where Papa Goes" included in
her program.
THE ~EST SELLERS IN BUFFALO
Sheet music counters in Buffalo report the
following numbers as their best sellers: "My
Sweetie Went Away," "That Old Gang of
Mine," "Back 111 Jl,lIy Own Dixie Home," "You
E>idn't Want Me 'When I Wanted You," "You
Can't Make a Fool Out of Me," "No, No,
Yora," "\Vonderful One" and "Easy Melody."

H. W_ Hatch has assumed charge of the sheet
music and small goods department of the Ana­
heim Music Co., 225 West Center street, Ana­
heim, Cal. This firm recently took over the
sale of the Peter's Edition in its territory. Mr.
Hatch was at one time associated with the
Hatch Music Co., of Philadelphia.

NEW MUSIC PUBLISHING CHARTERS
Among the songs of the better type which
are being heard frequently this season are two
successes from the catalog of the Edward B.
Marks Music Co. They are entitled "Just for
To-night" and "Kiss Me With Your Eyes."
Their popularity has been achieved in both
vocal and instrumental form. It is this type
of number which is educating the vaudeville
audiences to the better class of music.
The Secretar)' of the State of New York re­
ports the following new incorporations: "Cnity
Music Publishers, New York City; incor­
porators, E. Benheim, F. Tours and H. O. Bol­
ton; the Max Friedman Music Publishing Co.,
of Buffalo; capitalization, $2S,OOO; the incor­
porators being M. Friedman and P and H. R.
Shapiro.
