Four Brooklyn boys are the writers of a new

Co,., of that city. The song is entitled "Why
Should It Rain on a VVednesday Night?" Pro
fessional copies are already being distributed

come from the printers. The lyrics , of "Why

of the sall ie publisher.

Clay Smith is not unknown as a composer and,
considering the merits of "Maid of the \tV est,"
this comhinat'i on of writers, undoubtedly, will
be he a rd from frequently in the future or at
least more often than in the past.
The Fox organization plan s a wide exploita
tion drive on "Maid of th e \V est." It, undoubt
edly, will be heard in vaudeville, motion picture
houses, concert, lyceum, chautauqua and all
o~her chan nels where the programming of bet
ter-class music creates sales for songs of the
,tandar d type. While it is true that ":Maid of
Ihe W es t" is of the better type of song, it has,
a s is the case with "I Love a Little Cottage,"
words and tllusic that should be popular.
